Curve, I know of one dealer that has a number of them on order accompanied with serious $ deposits.

I also know that I will be riding the fun roads in California on the first to hit that dealer.

For fans of BMW, with any sort of memory, the idea of a factory boxer with performance over 100 hp let alone 100 at the wheel was a pipe dream involving some heavy investment into the venerable 1100S motor. Think back to some of the impressive 1100S projects we have seen over the years on this board and you really get a feel for how remote the chance of an R12S model was, let alone an HP2 version. That the 1100S missed the 1150 update and wasn't a best seller for BMW seemed to announce the death kneel for the S line.

Just how far has the R12S come from the R11S? Compare it to the multiple World Superbike, AMA, and IOMTT winning RC51, Honda's flag ship model that dethroned the Ducati 916 series in WSC.

The RC51 weighed in at 489 pounds wet and made 119 hp at the wheel
The R12S weighs in around 470 pounds wet and makes a minimum 114 hp at the wheel (dyno run at the Canadian Thunder Series at Mt. Tremblant in 2006 with a stock R12S)

So the R12S does run with some pretty impressive twin company. And while it has been stated over and over again people really do not seem to get how incredibly different the R11S and R12S are. It’s night and day.

Anyone with a modicum of motorcycle knowledge and even a smattering of track days will know that the high performing 600's will run with and see off most if not all twins. I think the membership of this forum is one of the more astute and certainly realistic in their expectations. However given BMW’s conservative history and the history of the R11S in particular it is hard to question the enthusiasm shown by the membership for the R12S and the HP2 variant. That a 600 has comparable performance isn’t even a factor. On price alone the R12S, HP2 variant or not, would be a losing proposition to a 600. Bothering to state irrelevant performance figures will hardly dent the enthusiasm of the membership here. BTW I do not believe there is a 600 on the market making 130 hp.

Well stated, RC51DRAG Riding a 600 on the street is as different as nite and day, for any real world performance, it must be kept on the boil.

A saying that I have heard is, " HP is fun some of the time, but torque is fun all the time" I think the modern Boxer Beemers keep with that saying very well and this new R1200S HP might just be the ultimate expression of that saying.

In my opinion about 1/3 of total estimate. (6500 to 7500 would qualify as "serious") Offer down payment in form of Bank Check which your dealer agrees not to cash until bike is delivered. Leave check with dealer, made out to the dealership, and clearly marked "part payment for 2008 R12S HP (DOHC) BMW" or similar.

Dean may have better thoughts on this but IF you really want one of these............decide before the Holiday season starts after Thanksgiving.........as some of us, Dean, myself, and others, are already offering thanks very early this year. D.C.

The dealer I am talking about is in Calif and any and all deposits are returnable by law. I would suggest something like $500.00 to $1K to get a place in line. Some dealers will get more than others, this is a dealer that will get more.

You should be able to figure out who they are, you could tell them that Dean sent you and that you are serious.

BTW, just so that every one is clear about it. I get no payment from them nor am I an employee of them, however as the founder, they er....ah.....um...let me run amok when I go out to visit. Their open house will be the weekend of Oct 27, the next weekend after the Daytona 8 hour, I'll be there.....running amok come by and visit.

That sounds more reasonable. Harley deposits are usually only $500 - $1,000 and these days, making a deposit that isn't fully refundable is foolish.

Yeah, well perhaps. I just want to make OVERLY SURE I guess. I want my dealer to KNOW he will not get stuck with this bike over about two hours time after uncrating. Harley deposits are dropping like hot lead from a minnie ball tower, tis true CK......but you will surely agree that no Harley will ever be as rare as these first year DOHC boxers, at least not in our lifetime.

Whatever the deposit it is worth it, besides the more I pay up front the less I will need to pay later.

Not that much. It may cost you that much..........I do not know..........but over here it will not be 25 thousand euro. That would equate to about 34000 American and that not going to happen. Where are you getting your information?

Me too. I want this bike over Bimota, Ducati and even MV Agusta. This bike to me represents all of what the other 3 do, but I don't expect it to be fussy. A track day bike where you change the oil and tires and ride and ride and ride and ride....you get the idea....

Self supporting carbon, not fake. I thought he did fantastic speaking english, I can't speak German, so I appreciate his effort."Real Carbon, not fake" I love that line. All hand built this bike will be worth every penny, not to mention the Halo effect for the rest of the Hex heads and hopefully as we wrote earlier we will see a trickle down on some of this stuff,

It actually has traction control to keep the rear wheel on the ground, sounds like some serious bike up front.

just got back from our ride and see this....mmmmmmmmm...good stuff.
I wonder how many they will make.
Since I'm already in line to be a bets tester,(

), by buying one of these, it will be interesting just how many and how much above,(if any), MSRP they will be.
