I still have some questions about the HP2 Sport.
1. Why no titanium conrods and valves? (or is the oil pressure the limit regarding rpm's?). I mean for this kind of money (almost every standard 600 has titanium valves) 2. Why no complete titanium exhaust system like the HP2 has? Or will there be a race exhaust (depending on wall thickness of the stainless steel it could save more kg's) 3. Why no magnesium forged wheels (like the Desmosedici)? 4. Why no enhanced oil cooling like for instance Moto Guzzi has for the new 8-valve engine (basically a Suzuki air-oil cooled system so almost a liquid cooled bike) Just wondering... ![]() Hugo |

I thought the current engines were air & oil cooled?

Hugo, the HP 2 has dual parallel oil coolers, Brian, yes the engines are air and oil cooled.

The HP2 Enduro has the advantage of being at the head of its class. The HP2 Sport in terms of pure performance won't beat the current I4 and L twin superbikes. Going the alternative route, a BMW strength, provides customers something other than the cookie cutter spec sheet enjoyed by the Japanese and reasonably emulated by Ducati.

I'll be interested to see how it does on the track versus the new 1125.

That little bit of info automatically makes the BMW a lot better. Because it keeps me throwing a red flag (Stopping the race). Running out with oil cleaner, and a broom. And clean the damn mess up. I sometimes wish they would not allow Buell's to race.

I'll be able to tell you guys how the 1125 does on the track after next wednesday... the problem with this bike is not the engine (that engine is rather exciting) but the fact that the fairing is a) big enough to cover two bikes and b) just plain fugly... Yes, I know.. it may be functional... but who the hell really cares? It's butt-ugly! It better be good, real good....

![]() Can't say I've heard of it happening on the track either. But if you check out the ADVRider or BMWST forums, you would think that you need to keep an extra FD strapped to the tank for the "inevitable" failure. (My post was in response to the "Buells will blow up" comment.)

I just remembered. I have seen a final drive failure during a race. When Nate got the R1200S, when it was still stock, and only had one race weekend on it.
When Nate Kern came to Heartland Park Topeka, in Topeka, KS (dur...) In June of '06. He was coming around turn 10, and his shaft broke... Come on, a two week old bike, and the damn shaft breaks. Ohhh he was PISSED! I was too! He was in 1st too, I forget what race it was. :edit I remember he said he was going to tell everyone the clutch cable broke. But then I remembered, the R1200S doesn't have a cable. (This is why Nate does not work on his bikes ![]() Here is his post about HPT Quote:
