We are seeing between 128 and 133 HP, prolly depending on the countrys emission regs I would guess.

and no one is going to remove the cat to see where they can find a few more ponies....

When the KAwk1400 and new Hyabusa were coming out we kept hearing about this 200 hp level, only to get 178hp or whatever.

yeah, only 178hp hahaha

My dad always tells me about how he had a 45hp Zastava 101 back in the day in the motherland, whenever I bring up my bike's "low" 77rwhp

I don't mean to diminish the 178 hp, it just seems the Italians and Japanese embellish a little more than the Germans when it comes to numbers.

I have a friend who was always amazed that his Japanese High HP cars never felt as fast as his wife's BMW, he know drives a BMW, took him close to 10 years to learn it isn't always what looks good on paper.

I have been watching videos of N8 and Brian this morning (ankles fractured) and it is unbelievable how much later they are on the brakes compared to the competition. The telelever and overall balance of the bike have a serious effect on performance of the R1200S, not discounting Chris's set-up or the skills of the riders, you can see the performance of this supposably slow sports bike, kicking ass. Nice job to BMW and all involved. Enjoy your R1200S's, they are great sports bikes that you can tour on.

It's really not embellishing............it's hp AT THE CRANKSHAFT, not rear wheel as on the dyno.

I don't think anyone embellishes anything, I think it has to do more with conversions, types of measurement, etc.
My bike has a 21% power loss compared to claimed bhp values..but that might not be the bike's fault, it was on a stationary dyno, no ram air, marginal airflow..and who knows how good the dyno is, you know? But still, if I bought a 500hp M5 and it had 395rwhp, I would not be happy!

If you bought a 500 hp M5, you wouldn't be unhappy no matter what the dyno showed.

I'd probably find a reason. The only reason I'm riding a BMW bike is because Mercedes-Benz doesn't make motorcycles

Mercedes-Benz, man, unlike any other.

jduke, I was totally pulling for the Spy Vs. Spy job. I like the idea that really unique bikes can be recognized from any angle, and those headlights would fit the bill. There would be no 600-bike comparisons in this thread. But it's a tiny detail to the rest of the bike that is so mechanically sweet. And if I had the stash, I'd pull the headlight apart and paint the silver around the outer edge and leave the main reflector recesses for throwing light. Then you get that goofy winking eyes look back.

Get some honest opinions from folks who work on these cars every day... they won't recommend buying one! Sorry, Miran... save your money and buy a Jap car... maybe not as much flair, but more bang for the buck!

?

The new busa is listed for 197hp here. They intentionally stayed under 200 to avoid over zealous attention from governments.

I won't go derailing this awesome, awesome thread anymore, I just wanted to say that for a guy with a donkeybike, sportster, and a 748, it's ironic to tell me that a Japanese car has more bang for the buck than a Mercedes. I won't drive a Camry for the same reason you don't ride a Bandit 600. There is no bang for the buck, because there is no bang. Essentially, you're dividing 0 bang, by X bucks, which equals 0

I think this new HP2 Sport will have a really large BANG, so the bang:buck ratio will still be high, probably higher than most Ducatis, MV Augustas, and other bikes in that price point.

This is noted by local friend Brad Hendry who raced the R12S in the nearby MRA Supertwins GTO series this year. He finished 2nd after leading much of the year against a flying horde of Ducati 1098's, 999's, and Aprilia Mille's. He mentions what you observed, how superior R12S braking and suspension could enable him to late brake and gain an edge.

well, on top of said steeds, I drive a Toyota, a BMW and a Volvo... now take a wild guess which one is the most reliable!?!?

Friend of mine learned at Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart and owns an independent Car Repair Shop... naturally specializing in German products... he would NOT buy a German car for himself anymore... kinda telling, isn't it?
...the HP Sport will give you marginally more motorcycle than you already get with the R12S... for considerably more money (how much exactly remains to be seen, but the euro/dollar ratio is not in your favor here...)... but you will definitely get one hell of an exclusive ride... fun and exciting no doubt... but I personally kinda got that out of the system when I bought the Duc...

When the Beemer came along, I learned that less can be a lot more... or more (as in weight) can still be more... any which way you look at it... I am sure that the folks who will buy the HP, will be happy... much like the ones who bought an R12S... and the ones who are still in love with their R11S

In the end, it does NOT matter which bike you are having fun on, for as long as you ARE having fun, wouldn't you agree?

Anyone know if that bellypan is an oil-retaining one?

Since the bike is touted as made for the track, I would imagine that it is designed as an oil retaining design.

Roger, if it is a "oil-retaining one" will you then get (a HP) one? Join us, this is going to be fun.
