Forgot to group my dumb questions ... I'm replacing the brake fluid (after the resevoir and cylinder got torn off

DOT4 is fine, DOT5 not fine. The Valvoline SynPower stuff is well-liked and widely available.
Some mechanics preach the gospel that you have to use brand-spanking-new brake fluid from a sealed and unopened container, but I think if the container is properly capped/sealed between uses, you're Okay for a couple times, although I wouldn't use stuff that has been sitting around since the Clinton administration. - Mark |

If you stick the vacuum wine bottle seal in the top of a small wine bottle that is cleaned and dried you never have to worry about the air. You can buy them at any good wine store.

well, i was talking about how to preserve the unused fluid and go side-swiped.
![]() Those seals really do give an airtight closure to the remaining hyd fluid and save the $$$'s. |

I do the same with my wine that I do with my brake fluid, screw the cap back on.
