Ride magazine said the average age of S owners was 45 in their survey so I am below average again!

Must try harder or get older.

Neil (34 and a half)

Thumbs up

An average age of 45 would put me well above average! Its no wonder my old dirt bike knees bother me after a couple of hundred K! And thats with lowered pegs! Cheers Steve Br

I must admit that I thought the average age would be much younger as well. I am 27 and bought the bike new at 26.

Well I am a spritely 42 and a little.

The older I get the better I was.

Age Poll/Pace Maker Guerilla

One great thing about bikes.....young or old, the glue that holds us together is
all things motorcycle related......the bikes I started on are now classics in the
Guggenheim.....wish I'd kept all of them......silly to think my S is faster and
handles better than the bike Mike Hailwood rode to victory at the Isle of Man in
1961....and here I am on a board with "whipper-snappers".....but who share a
similar passion....and if we meet somewhere on the road, will have a lot in common.....
Another nifty thing about being a gray muzzle.....helps to get you out of tickets..
on a trip out West in June, I was stopped in Arizona for speeding....middle of
nowhere......outside Show Low.....when the trooper asked me if there was a
reason I was going so fast, I said yes....there were thunderstorms all around, and
I was trying to get away from them, because I have a pacemaker (Split-Fire
Ignition).....he said he'd never heard that one before......I asked if he wanted to
see my scar....showed him my card (good for going through security at the airport
after you trip the alarms).....told him there would be a lot of paperwork if I cashed
out there......he wrote me a warning ticket, and said he'd better not catch me
again....
that hasn't always been the case.......now I'm older than our president.....
but not older than Mike the Mechanic at Lone Star.....who's retiring so he
can go riding!!!!
A thing I've noticed over the years.....when I look at my inner circle, of
friends who I'm tight with.....they all ride....some fly, some sail, some are into
scuba diving.....climbing.....surfing......but all of them ride....
just exactly the sort of folks my mother always warned me about....
and the very best lot to throw in with, no matter what age.....

Cool

Addie I'm with you, being average sucks!!

All things being relative, I still can't figure out why those youngen's can't keep up with their fancy sport bikes!!

"Aging is required, growing old is optional"

I have been riding since I was a teenager. I have no idea what I'm going to do for mid life crisis? Buy a Harley? Young girl friend? Ah hell I need to go for ride and figure it out!! Watch out kiddies!!

Well... no wonder there are no pillions posting "only as young as the man I feel"

Regardless of what age we all are.... we've all got the same smarts to own an "S"

I just look forward to the day I'm capable of riding one of these darn things myself

Hmmm, methinks a younger girlfriend... it may work out 'less
expensive' in the long run!

Gary.
(only as young as the woman I feel - I should change my vote! )

Bought mine brand new in May of this year, turned 25 two months prior. The younger S owners are a surprising minority. Just have to keep riding to get there I guess!

Working a few bids on e-bay....nice Bose system new in the box for $300 to $400 less than lowest retail. Hope that receiver has enough testicular fortitude (watts) to drive it all (haha).

Every time I'm on my S I feel 25....does that count or am I still 40...Damn!

Talking Notice a few Aussies in the group....

Hey you Aussies....

Ssssusan here in New Jersey, USA. Got a ticket to Sydney, Australia for Jan 30, 2002 - Feb 27, 2002 to visit my brother and his family. Can't Wait!

Wondering if you know of any place to rent a beemer for some of my time there?

I too ride the R1100SA - black of course. Bought mine Sept. 99 (it's 26 months old) and have 69,685 miles on it at the time of this post. : ) Just in case you are wondering about my riding...
Oh, and in response to the age thing....I turned 44 in Oct. Been riding about 3 1/2 years, never was even on a bike before that.

TIA

Hi Sssssusan hope you manage some ride time in Australia. Renting a BMW could take a bit of looking around. I found one site you might want to have a look at http://www.rentabike.com.au for the sake of reference as they have BMWs but they are not in Sydney...

A site in Sydney but looks like they dont do beemers:
http://www.bikescape.com.au/rentals/rentals.htm

May I suggest you try your luck with doing a search on www.google.com and submit a search with a format like this to restrict the matches to sites in the australian .au domain

motorcycle rental site:.au

I'm checking out some more sites and if I spot one with BMWs in Sydney I'll post a msg.

Have Fun,
Rattus

PS - click on this to bring up a listing of bike rental places from the australian yellow pages online http://www.yellowpages.com.au/yp/search/business_type_results.jhtml?breadCrumbLevel=0&breadCrumbString=&categoryId=9000132&categoryName=Motor+Cycles--Hire+%26+Tours&parents=&pLN=&commName=motorcycle+rental&pState=&pArea=&pSA=false&pMetroArea=1&pOtherArea=&pDays=&pHours=&pBrand=&pPayment=&pP=&pIA=&pShowZoned=true&searchType=refine&isSuper=
