Happy BD, Brad!
With another year down, maybe it's time we actually get together for a ride next year (after El Niņo). Never happened this year. i vote for a Jeff memorial ride to the Ahwahnee. BTW, whoever invented "safe space"? Sounds boring.

Happy birthday, Brad....
He's probably building a sandcastle somewhere right now. Guy just won't grow up... that's why I like him!

It's that time again already; i wonder if the clowns at CERN turned up the wayback machine...
Anyway, Brad, happy BD. as well. I couldn't shanghai the Roscoe H. this year but I did get to copy Adm. Byrd's notes so I know how deep the rabbit hole goes. Nice folks there, I speak schwabisch well enough to be understood and the schnitzle is supposed to be excellent. Also tall busty blondes. Look for the bright light and listen for the hum..

Best wishes and commiserations. It's all down hill from here.
Years go quicker and so does you stamina but that's another story. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Forget about when you were a young man, it just doesn't work like that anymore. Just keep looking forward to 65, then 70 and so on. Each day is a gift beyond that! ![]() ![]() Keep shorter expectation and thoughts. That way you won't have to try too remember when, where or how. ![]()

jeez JRMSR, that's about the most depressing "happy birthday" i've seen.
it's not all downhill for me, i still expect "much" and often get it, lots of parts that worked when i was "young" still work just fine. warranty is still good on most of them. when i wake up in the morning, i'm glad to be alive. other are disappointed. works for me! i'm still on track to die young as late as possible.

true RB, but they have some pretty awesome replacement/upgrade parts.
the screen mesh they stuffed behind my belly button is way tricker than the one on my bike's oil cooler vents. it took four people to install and comes with a lifetime guarantee. they didn't even make me stay behind a "no-customers-past-here" yellow line while they did the upgrade.

You'll learn bradley.
I rejoice in the" gift of life" but not in the" pride of life." "This is the day the Lord hath made, rejoice and be glad in it." However the aches and pains of aging will come upon you soon enough. You have no choice in the matter. I'm a realist and always face forward, even until death; I walk or run everyday at least 8-10 miles. I still skydive & parasail, shoot, hunt, road race, rock climb and do just about everything I did when I was young but with in reason. However; a bit slower, a bit more methodical and much wiser. You have to work at it over 65 but you'll see what I mean soon enough. You're still a young tike but time always has a way of reigning in the young, even at heart. ![]() ![]()

aches and pains will come?
ha! you should get up inside here one morning. i'm with you on still doing things. hitting tsunami skydivers today at 1, weather looks good. i'm a P-2 paraglide pilot. i shoot only garden gophers (daisy bb rifle, no scope) and occasionally hunt women. no RR for me until the left rotator cuff gets ported and polished. i climb rocks, but i drag my motorcycle along with me. at least, that's how it often turns out. i'm also slower and more methodical, and if you consider that i know not to put my face in a campfire, i am occasionally wiser. among a couple hundred folks i saw at a recent reunion, i found myself spending most of time with four of them. all four are in their late seventies, mid eighties. they all still ride dirt and street. two of them are even still racing regularly. they're all still very young, which is part of why they're my heroes. ps: don't call me bradley. my 87 year old mother will slap you upside the head, right after she gets back from her five day Cabo cruise/card game/snorkeling expedition.

Don't know if you're still viewing this thread, Jonny; my dad worked at CERN,in 63-64,at Fermi Lab in71,at DESY in Germany 82 and 87 ,,may have been a bit radioactive when he got early onset Alzheimer's,died in 92.
Told me emphatically as I got my early motorcycle training that motorcycles were inherently unstable. On his extensive bookshelf were some books on small plane piloting. He never pursued, maybe my mom wouldn't let him. Its like Jim Roche says do what you can when you can... |
