Let's get real about the need of coolant change

Could it actually be true that Porsche contends that no periodic change of coolant is neccessary ? If so that's nonsence! Perhaps what they mean by life-time coolant is coolant that is changed only after its anti-corrosion properties wearout and causes engine damage. Such a "lifetime coolant contention" can only be a marketing ploy similar to their very extended oil change interval recommendation.

I would be pleased if someone could share information on coolant replacement proceedures. Also, I would be interested in hearing from an owner who has beleived Porsche"s tale about coolant and experienced water-pump, head gasket, radiator(s), or any other engine problem.

How about you, Albert? Have you had a problem with the coolant? If not, what's your basis for your statements about marketing ploys.

The coolant does indeed to appear to be "lifetime" Lifetime would appear to be until the reservoir develops cracks and leaks, and\or waterpump\hoses which require the system to be drained, refilled and bled.

Then engines do seem to "consume" coolant over time - Ususally wind up topping off the reservoir every couple of months.

No evidence of breakdown in at least one car with 88K miles on it - no record of coolant change in the records, tested out fine with a refractometer.

Warning: Porsche coolant does NOT mix well with conventional coolants. Only the VW\Audi coolant is known to be compatable with it. Regulat coolant forms a gel when mixed with Porsche coolant.

Also, undiluted Porsche coolant is very irritating to the skin - has about the same effect\feeling as brake fluid.

What is the pricing on Porsche coolant and is it only 'lifetime' for the boxter?

Jeez, TCM, learn the correct spelling of Boxster if you're going to use it in your signature. That goes for you, too, Albert. (the title in your other thread).

Engineering on todays vehicles are allowing long life coolant and longer intervals on changing your oil and filter. Of course how you use your vehicle is also a factor that comes into play.
