Can't insert Ignition Key

'Have 1999 Boxster. 'Had difficulty removing ignition key. 'Finally removed it. Now I can't insert key.

'Common problem? Am I looking at needing to replace ignition switch, or am I not aware of simple solution?

Thanks

It is my understanding that it is a common problem that there is a piece in the switch that 'breaks' easily. Supposedly common. I had it where when I pulled the key out, the system still thought the key was in, and it left everything 'on' and 'dinging'. I believe they had to replace the switch (been a while, so can't remember). I do remember, though, that my mechanic said he had replaced a bunch of them with the same issue.

Now, if you can't get the key in, not sure how you get it to the mechanic!
