Swapping out ignition, immobilizer/CLU, DME

It looks like I found a bad box under the driver's seat due to a short and liquid contamination, Immobilizer/Central Locking Unit Whatever you call it. Owner is suggesting a used matched, ignition, key, Immobilizer/Central Locking Unit, and DME from same year car. Will this work?

Thanks

The box under the driver's seat is the alarm unit. What you have suggested will work, however, I believe that all you need to do is replace the alarm unit under the seat (unless the short has fried more things). On the early Boxsters (you don't mention which year), the key, immobilizer, and the DME must be the matched set.

This car is a 99. To replace the alarm unit under the seat by itself would require programming and a code I can only get at the dealer correct, or can I just install the alarm unit without coding?

What other options do I have? Owner can get a pre-owned matched Key, alarm unit, and DME out of a same year car for about $700

Well the owner started getting scared of what other issues the car might have if the car started. So we ended up selling it to a Porsche tech a couple hours ago. I'm sure he will have no issues getting it going.

Thanks anyways

healthservices,

Replacing the Immobilizer from your Boxster will require programming.

Since you mentioned about putting a matching DME Set from another car let me advise you against that.

From reading your notes it sounds like you want to put as little money into the car as possible.

We made about video about why this is a bad idea: https://youtu.be/QCOunBZL_Yk

VIN # will be different in DME and therefore that can open a can of worms.

It's much cleaner and simpler to solve the issue with the OEM set that you currently have.
