Question on Window Regulator Replacement

My window can be pushed up and down by hand. The motor can be heard running when you use the switch. The motor operates in both directions, just the window doesn't move with the motor.
Should I be replacing the gearbox or regular or could something just worked its way loose? Or has the drive on the motor broken?
