hi, i have a 04 mini cooper S. I stopped at a light and when i went to go put the car into first gear, and all that went up are the RPMs. I can put the shifter into any gear, and the car does nothing. it doesnt even stall out if i take my foot off the clutch and do not press the gas. the car stays on, but its almost as if the car is in neutral.

Check if the shift cables came off.

Also check the clutch hydraulics; the master cylinder attached to the pedal and the slave cylinder at the transmission end. If none of the above are the problems, you may have a bad clutch.
