Do you need to reset the "brake pad replacement" light and if so, how?

No, the new sensor will reset it. See here for reset info for CBS data.

In some cases, even replacing the sensor will not reset the light. I had to use the button on the turn signal stalk and the button on the tach to reset the light on my 2012 Cooper when I replaced the rear brakes and sensor.
