Heading out the door, saw this on the local news....out of Raleigh. Exiting a ramp at insane speeds on a 4th of July weekend....total carnage....but the "Porsche" name was on the wreckage. Just stupid and sad....utterly stupid....dayum

Leave it so we can all tell our wild stories of speeding debauchery and how we came out unscathed.

Here's a version. Apparently, a Dr with 2 young kids. Pretty sad.
Police: Porsche was traveling close to 150mph when it hit tree on Wade Avenue; UNC REX doctor killed | abc11.com and another https://www.cbs17.com/news/unc-rex-doctor-killed-in-high-speed-crash-was-a-father-of-2/1274650902 https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/news/local/nc-doctor-killed-after-being-ejected-when-127k-porsche-hits-tree-at-148-mph/83-569232156 ![]()

Could be a medical issue too... I mean something went wrong while he was in the car, heart attack, seizure, whatever.

From the last link provided.

The TV video report in the first link talked of "damages", not sure they they were talking about the railings and trees or just the car as a total loss. Looks like a boxer engine, from a 911?

I fought to keep one hand on the wheel as the other arm could not be lifted and my foot on the gas seemed to be from somebody else. My speed was irregular on wet pavement to say the least. Oh, and I sank down in the seat like an elephant was on my chest. It came and went in a matter of moments, and I never figured out what it was. I continued driving like it never happened. However, I was very close to losing it at a very inopportune moment. I don't recall being on any medication, just under stress. My point is that unless you had a heart attack while behind the wheel of a car or some other sudden episode like I had, one cannot sit in judgment about what happened with the pressure on the gas pedal. I'm just glad the kids were not in the car.

Are you saying an airbag or better seatbelts would have made a significant difference in the outcome from a 148mph impact with a tree?

One of the links mentioned a 2016 Porsche worth $127k. I'm going to assume that with the value and the fact that it looks like a flat 6, that's probably a 911 of some sort.

I think he's saying that a lawyer might argue that and try to sue.

These cars now have like a half dozen to a dozen airbags now don't they? Side impact airbags, rollover airbags, and so forth, right?

Maybe some ambulance chaser might try but a pretty basic explanation of physics including the energy dissipated and deceleration curve of an impact like that and how people physically come apart in those situations should make it a short trial. Of course, juries are made up of the general population so there’s that issue.

Not sure how it happened but he was a member of the local PCA group.
My brother passed by the wreck right after it happened, he did not expect anyone to survive.

Of course, that just means the spin will now focus on the construction of the car and the inadequate anchoring of the seat/seat belt, or irresponsible design ala Paul Walker.

That, and the fact that no one else on the road was caught up in his exuberance. This is just an awful crash. Engine and gearbox separated, bodywork disintegrated, the guy's heart is still beating when they cut him out and drive him off in the ambulance...
This one will be hard psychologically on the folks he left behind...

A few years ago I had been driving for about 8 hours straight when I began to feel lightheaded. I had my little chihuahua with me in a dog crate. I got off the highway, got a motel room, and went to sleep on the bed. I woke up about an hour later with my dog still in her crate on the bed next to me. I have no memory whatsoever of anything that happened between the time I started feeling lightheaded and the time I woke up. I don't know what I did or how I got checked into a room. I went out to the van and found my car keys lying on the ground and the driver's door wide open. Good thing I stopped in a good neighborhood. The doctor's conclusion was that after sitting so long a blood clot formed in my leg and went to my brain. He told me never to drive more than 2 hours without getting out of the car and walking around for a few minutes.
