Red face The Ultimate Bridezilla

This is just too weird to make it up
Bride cancels wedding, breaks up with fiancé after friends and family refuse to pay for $60G nuptials | Fox News
Quote:
The bride went on to say during her foul-mouthed rant that all the couple needed for their grand $60K wedding was “a little push.”

“Our dream wedding amounts to 60K – all included with flights to Aruba. All we asked was for a little help from our friends and family to make it happen.”

The 17-paragraph outburst said the pair “specifically asked for cash gifts” from the guests.

“How could we have OUR wedding that WE dreamed of without proper funding? We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500.”

The bride also explained she “made it CLEAR. If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once and a lifetime [sic] party.”

Much to the bride’s dismay, she and her fiancé quickly discovered that people were not willing to pay $1,500 to attend their special day.

“So we sent out RSVP’s and only 8 people replied and sent us the check. We were f---ing livid. How was this supposed to happen without a little help from our friends,” she wrote.

“Desperately, we resent our invites and asked people to donate what they could. I mean seriously people, what is $1,000? What is $1500? Clearly, not a lot,” she continued. “We also set up a go fund me. That only got us $250. At this point we were exhausted, tired.”

The bride said her now-ex suggested they get married in Vegas to save on costs, but she “laughed in his face.”

“He wanted those cheap, raggedy, filthy, whore like Vegas weddings,” she wrote. “Am I some Hooch piece of f---ing trash, a hooker?”

“My ex left the room and didn’t apologize for his horrid suggestion,” she wrote.

The enraged woman then wrote that she took out her frustrations on her Maid of Honor who had promised her $5,000 before backing out.
There is more but this is enough to get the idea. Talk about entitlement?!

I guess the story does have a happy ending: the guy didn't marry this wacko.

I’m surprised that some people actually coughed up the money.

This chick sounds like s real winner. Her fiancé was smart in walking out and not coming back. Imagine being married to her for life?

He got lucky! Talk about dodging a bullet! My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner at Pizza Hut and the wedding dinner was catered by Mr Goodcents sub sandwiches. 16 years, still going strong!

Sounds like us. No rehearsal dinner. Wedding at our house. We had it catered for about $500 or less. 30 years now.

It is not "our" world anymore, it is "their" world. It's getting crazier multiplicatively, and it can't be stopped. Baby boomers once roamed and ran the earth with pride, now they sleep under the porch while the Pride parades by. It is a new world. Accept it. GOD bless our children!

I don't care who is paying for it, I would never spend $60k on a one-day party! You gotta be Bill Gates rich to have parties like that.

This girl seems a bit shallow and wanting to be a Kardashian proves that.

Big spender!

We got married in a non denominational chapel at the the university where my wife worked at the time. That chapel was free. We paid the minister $100 to show up and say the words. We rented the local Senior Citizens building at a park for $50 and had a reception for friends to show up and mingle. Two grocery store cakes, and some punch and nuts.

Ta-Da! It has been 26 years and going strong. Smartest thing I ever did.

We had a small family only wedding in a church. The reception was a hog roast dug into the inlaws back yard with a rented tent/tables. We opened gifts in the repainted garage, and I played 50s music on my home stereo in the driveway. 30 years later, people still talk about how cool/laid back the whole thing was.

We had a really nice cake that was really good. It was also a wedding gift from our friend that ran the bakery/catering service. The church was free. Paid our pastor $75 and then the reception was in the gym at the same church. We had simple sandwiches but it was a nice lunch. Will be 18 years this December.

On the flip side,a good friend of mine paid (was given the money for by his and her families) just over $75k for a wedding and reception where the food was an hour late and the chicken was bloody. The cake was not fit for a dog and it was a crowded mess. A year later they were separated. That price did not include the honeymoon.

My daughter didn't want a wedding at all. She wanted a simple civil ceremony. So I offered them round trip airfare anywhere they wanted to go plus some spending cash. She chose...….. VEGAS! My kid rules.

I read the whole article a few days ago. Yes, the post is a total bridezilla moment. However, two other things stuck out to me:

1) She grew up on a farm and is universally described as a very nice person and everyone was surprised by the post.

2) The post was up for all of 15 minutes, late at night, before being deleted.

I'm going to speculate that an elaborate wedding was the one thing she wanted in life. In a moment of drunken weakness, she posted something that was better kept to herself. She needed some sober reflection to figure out that she shouldn't be blaming other people for her problems, which seem rather small in the grand scheme of things. Yeah, she shouldn't have taken the advice of a psychic and I can't blame the fiancé for walking away. I also can't help but think she had unrealistic expectations for her wedding (thanks Disney!) and maybe this was a singular flaw in an otherwise normal person.

A few years after I started in my current job out of college, one of my friends sat next to a true bridezilla. She spent much of her day for 1.5 years on the phone planning her wedding. (This was before cell phones were ubiquitous so she was making/taking phone calls from her desk phone to friends, family, bridesmaids, caterers, photographers, etc...) She had 7 bridesmaids and during the course of her engagement she fired two of them, and was constantly "promoting" and "demoting" them up/down from where they stood based on how they appeased or disappointed her. She was also building a custom house with her fiancé at the same time and when she wasn't on the phone about the wedding, she was on the phone with her general contractor. My friend said she was constantly screaming at people: vendors, contractors, bridesmaids. Any way, she gets married, moves into her house, and her now husband files for divorce within the first six months and she's divorced before her first anniversary. He seemed to think the bridezilla phase was one that she would get over after the wedding. Instead she turned her attention to trying to berate him into her perfect husband.

***************************************

I have a friend that I met in college as he was a high school friend of one of my room mates. He'd been dating his girlfriend since freshmen year of high school. They went off to the same college (my college) together. I didn't really like either of them. The girlfriend was overbearing and the guy cheated on her regularly. The girlfriend hated me because he basically always lied and said he was with me when he was cheating on her. She assumed this meant I was in on helping him cheat, which I was not. (I only learned about him claiming to be with me until after college.)

Anyway, they get married a few years after college. 300+ people at the wedding. During the reception, she gets on the mike and orders everyone to remove the slip covers from their chairs because they are forest green and not the mint green she specifically requested. She sent the bridesmaids around to collect them.

I thought for sure they would be my first friends to get divorced. 15 years later and they're still married, though they don't talk to me anymore, which I'm fine with.
