You know it is quite an event when it is difficult to count the different 917 and 959 examples on site.

Great show, tons of eye candy. I was here in 2011 and this time around it seems like there are more people and more cars in the corral areas but less race cars participating which is a bummer. It's my favorite part. The best part is, if all goes well I found my new vintage race car. Will know in a week after the inspection.

So Dave, what did you think? I forgot my phone in the hotel, so I was only able to take a couple photos with a friend's. After a few hours there, all the muti-million dollar rare race cars all look, feel, and sound the same as if you were just walking through a dealership's lot. Strange how that is?

Ya, walking up and seeing 11 959s parked together makes them feel a little less rare. Heck I think there might have been more 959s there than 928s!
I really wonder what they flying lap time for the 919 was. I was standing by the pit wall when it clocked 190, astonishing speed. |

I could not make advance plans to attend because I thought I would be out of town this weekend. When that changed, I thought about running up there for one of the days but when I checked for tickets, it was SOLD OUT!!
That told me all I needed to know. Was with someone this morning in L.A. who was up there and had to ditch on Saturday afternoon, just too many people and too much of "a circus", in his words. He left abruptly before dinner and drove down here. He is in town from the east coast on various business but had planned on being up there all weekend. Major Porsche guy, if that makes any difference. I have no doubt about the volume of great cars present but I just can't handle scenes anymore. The photos will suffice.

They will sell you a ticket on the spot. We bought an extra one Saturday morning for a friend who flew up at the last minute.
Dennis, it wasn't bad at all. Sure there are more people then all the previous times but it was more then manageable with plenty of elbow room at all the booths and cars. Anyone can still get up as close as they like, easily, to any of the cars there and touch them if they so desires. No one would do that. One day was enough. All the walking and standing in that beautiful 70 degree weather with the ocean breeze did kick my ass at the end of the day. |

I was there in 2011, the crowds this year felt bigger on Saturday but we went Friday and part of Sunday as well and it was very manageable. Next time I'd do Friday, all day Sunday and maybe skip Saturday. There are so many great places to watch racing there you get a ton of walking in for sure. The corrals were full of great cars and approachable owners to talk to. I found the mechanics very approachable as well. If all goes well I'll be buying a 914 I looked at while I was in town that was built and used as a POC time trial car and use that for my vintage race car. Walking through the pits and talking to the guys taking care of the 914's that were racing was fun and informative.
