Passenger described very noisy exhaust before the crash so I wonder if carbon monoxide poisoning caused the wreck. Everyone may have been dead before the crash.

a crooked foreigner doing a half assed job of running a business and flouting the rules?

who ever heard of such a thing!

crooked third world people bring crooked third world practices with them.

this guy should not have been allowed to own/operate any business.

What the hell does being foreign have to do with it?

That would take hours. Not 10 minutes.

IMO a distracted unfamiliar driver in a 10,000lb car with stock brakes carrying 18 150lb people going down a steep hill caused the wreck.

I'll also betcha 5 bucks the driver was on his phone.

Yeah, no. Loud exhaust does not equal CO1 poisoning. If it did, a lot of obnoxious tools w straight pipes on new BMWs could be dispensed with in certain parts of town here.

The exhaust would have had to have been routed straight into the passenger compartment to accomplish what you are suggesting. So...no.

No question that he was a crooked foreigner flouting rules but that is not confined to foreign born people in the U.S. and to suggest that most immigrants break laws is patently false as well. I'd say that NY has more native born scumbags than any other kind but that is another subject.

second/third world mentality of 'just do it and don't worry about rules'. it's an attitude amongst business owners I've seen over and over again.

Never said most immigrants break laws. RTFP and quit inserting your own agenda.

Your assertion that NY has more native born scumbags than anywhere else is patently false.

see how that works?

Brakes and exhaust are about the cheapest maintenance items you can do to a car.

And it make no sense to not take care of that - especially when that vehicle is the reason for your business!!

I've worked all over the world - North Africa, Middle East, Caribbean. I feel so bad for the workers who have to put up with cracked hard hats, no eye protection, old busted up back hoes and cranes, no fall protection...

We try to insist on these things, but you finally just end up trying to manage the workers to slow down and protect themselves.

I can see them bringing that mentality to a business and maybe paying a fine in lieu of following the law.

I checked on Google Earth. The road they were travelling down had a 6% grade. That's not that steep, but definitely steep enough to be trouble for an over-loaded limo with bad brakes.

It's surprising that there were no survivors. The only pic I've seen of the limo is of the right side, which is unscathed. The roof is straight, too. I would have expected worse damage.

saw that too. you almost have to wonder about the exhaust leak suggestion. I would think that would show up in autopsy though. must've been a horrible scene to come upon.

I couldn’t believe it either but then I imagine sitting on a bench seat unbuckled with 17 other people and hitting the side of a hill at 60.

Whatever the case, it’s a horrible tragedy.

Do you have a link? I’ve seen zero photos of the wrecked limo. I suspect that you were looking at a photo of a different vehicle.

Not to derail the thread but the best cheeseburger I have eaten in my entire life is just a few miles from the brewery they were headed to. Place is called Council Rock Brewery.

Some amazing food in that area. Awesome Italian joint in Cooperstown proper as well.
