Just got evacuated from PCB. With Florence chasing me out of NC a few weeks back, it's the second time in a month that I've been directly in the path of yet another hurricane. I hope for the best for my friends and family along the Gulf Coast. The tidal surge and spawned tornadoes are the storm within the storm.

I have a friend since childhood. Retired "bus driver" from American Airlines. Now living in Sarasota. During winter, he loves to call me, asking how the Oregon weather is, telling me he's enjoying a gin & tonic by the pool, etc.
Would it be too nasty to call him and ask about his weather? ![]()

Sarasota's not supposed to get any of this, maybe a little wind and rain.

it maybe a 4 by landfall
the eyewall is the killer bit and it is a small ring in the very center of the highest winds plus tornadoes you can't see or hear coming I have closely avoided eyewalls maybe 5 or ten miles everyone I know who has been thru one will never ever do it again if your near the eyewall landfall RUN NOW |

Sounds like it is now a cat 4 storm. I'm now at a nice lakeside park near Auburn Ala.
About 200 miles north of PCB. I drove up early Tuesday morning and had a very nice drive into rolling hill country. This is the first place that Ive been in my motorhome that there is no over the air TV signal, total blackout, just when I want to be following the storms progress.. I boarded up the shop and now have my fingers crossed that the flimsy structure will stand up to the wind. As my 911 is down right now and had to be left there in the shop. I do feel good about the four big oak trees that we had taken down just last week cause they had rot in the trunks. A bit less clean up to be done after the storm. I'm hoping the impact along the coast is not too bad and it does move on by quickly. Cheers Richard |

G'day!

Coverage by the media could be a LOT better. As usual...most of it is about shock and awe....very little practicality.
"Get out now! Storm surge! Wave heights! Blah blah blah..." What is needed: Comprehensive primer/workshops on how to manage:
It's the year 2018 and we've been through heaps of storms/hurricanes and this is the best the media/government can do to inform the public? ![]()

Baz you are so right. We've lived on the Md shore within 0-6 miles of the Atlantic for over 30 years and the tv coverage went from monotone facts on TWC to hysteria designed to help ad revenues.
What does a human need to survive? water, food, shelter and some form of protection from looters. Offer practical advice on securing those things. Talk about portable generators and transfer switches. Talk about the danger of improperly connected generators for line crews. Talk about co poisoning from running gens in closed spaces. instead everything is focused on 'run! panic! look at how brave our weather reporter is!'.
