I'm changing my voter registration...

...'cause I'll be danged if I'm getting a bigger mailbox to accomodate the trash bags full of "crap" I've received in recent weeks . Even in "state" races....unbelievable amounts of poster size mailings?

Another beef too: I voted a few daze ago, and the same day, received a notice from "my party"... showing my (and neighbors') past voting history (voted or not), and that I had NOT voted as of 10 days ago??? Hmmm....I don't think I like either political party....never have, never will...

The "data" now available, combined with unlimited $...this isn't a good thing imo. Our "two party" $y$tem $uck$ imo....

Discuss...

edited: I'm registered as an R (doesn't matter imo), so I can vote in the primaries here....just not worth being on their "radar" anymore. I'll change to my party to NONE before another one rolls around...

I’ve had Donald Trump text me five times in the last few weeks, what an honor!

I hate election time, so many stupid advertisements on both sides. They are all lying scum.

Interesting idea. I suppose removing the party affiliation from the record should substantially reduce the amount of political junkmail you receive. Probably not all of it.

Political crap represents a large portion of the junkmail we receive and I hate it too. We shred everything with our name/address on it (my wife's identity theft prevention plan), and between processing the junkmail, and preparing the wife's amazon prime boxes for recycling, I have a solid part time occupation

With all the focus these days on the environment, its surprising to me that no one is protesting the mountains of junkmail we all throw in the trash everyday.

I suspect independents get TWICE the junk mail as everyone assumes your vote is up for grabs.

Believe it or not, whether or not you have voted is public knowledge.
I worked at the polls several years ago. They keep a list of registered voters and check off who has voted and who hasn’t. At about 2 PM the parties started calling those who hadn’t voted. We were allowed to ask them if they needed a ride to the polls or needed a babysitter or any other help so they could come vote. You couldn’t ask them anything like “do you intend to vote,” let alone who they might vote for.

The amount of phone calls I received to taker a voter survey of from the R or D campaigns was too much for me too. I never seen anything like that before - might be the new normal.

I hope you're wrong...if true....I won't even have a mailbox in two years

Oh yeah....I get at least a half-dozen mailings EVERY week from Spectrum, AT&T, and my local phone co...

I too shred just the portions of all this crap that contains my info...it's a PITA.

They use any public information they can buy or find. I am the owner of 3 LLCs which they can find by going through the Secretary of State’s records. Republicans assume any business owner would be one of them, so I get a ton of junk mail from Republican candidates.

Democrats are finally getting competitive against the Republicans in Texas, it's usually solid R. It's incredible the number of mailers and ads we see on TV. I can't believe you poor people in battleground states have to deal with this every 2 years!

Root of the problem is the money. There is so much out there that has to be sent, that the same candidate will send you 5 different mailers over the course of two weeks, just insane.

Before I go....yesterday's mail contained 4 big ol' (24" x 12") heavy stock posters, and just ONE from my local phone co. It was a slow day

I live in Maryland and it's ironic to get huge amounts of heavy paper from politicians touting their environmental credentials......

Anyone with their own range could use those metal sign frames to hold targets.
Or prop up plants in the garden like I do.
Or create a small section of fence to elp guide dogs to the poop area.
Or welding rod.
Or make spaghetti art.

There is saturation, then a point where it becomes negative.

Personally I would read any political add that came my way.

I tend to visit the websites of each candidate and poke around.

I usually vote via absentee ballot. I mailed my ballot over a week ago. The mail is pretty easy to trash. I just hate my phone ringing 10 or more times a day for the political calls.

I don't watch TV, so no political ads or any other ads for that matter. I get a political mailer every other day or so, which is a small fraction of my junk mail, and of course the other junk mail is year round. Haven't answered a political robocall yet, but I do use a robocall screening app so robocalls aren't really an issue for me.

My Facebook feed is full of political content, as many of my friends are politically active - lots of get out the vote energy.

Some perspective - despite all the political publicity, citizen awareness of elections, candidate and issues is low and so is the turnout rate. Maybe there should be more publicity, not less.

I was caught at a mall near where I live several weeks ago and a "new" senate candidate had set up there and was meeting her potential voters. There were two local news stations there filming folks as she shook hands and yakked and such. Sooooooo I went over and when she said hello, I said I noticed in your TV ads that you are going to "fight" for lower housing cost and are going to "fight" for lower tuition for "everyone and I was curious just what that meant? Are you going to vote NO on everything or just not votes or beat up an opposing senator or, or, or? She looked like she has been hit in the head with a brick and the TV camera folks were laughing like hell and their cute reporters were trying to stay serious! Well she stammered and coughed and quickly shook another person's hand so I said to one of the reporter's I guess she doesn't know what fighting really means, maybe she should visit Camp Pendleton to see. Darned if I wasn't on the news but so far no FBI or CIA folks have visited me?

I can confirm this as true.

As a NPA, you'll get hammered by both sides....and then some. MUCH more than if you were aligned with a party.

I unplugged my phone 2 days ago.

The junk mail goes into the trash can in my garage.

It is what it is......the stupidity season.....

Here in always blue Oregon not as much campaign krap as you poor souls in swing states get. The national parties don't spend $ where they think the election results are certain. Only race of national interest that might be tight is the Governor's race.

I'll be glad when the TV ads stop. Nasty stuff.
