My neighbour says if you can grow tomatoes you can grow weed. He also said with 4 plants you can grow as much as a 1/4lb a month, more than enough to smoke yer face off.

Once people find out they can have weed for free the market will adjust. There is a reason they call it 'weed' because that is what it grows like, people in tropical climates (lots of sun, rain, and volcanic soil) just hike into the jungle, put down some sprouts, go back in a few month for the harvest.

I wonder if there are any strains of weed that do well in the desert? For medicinal use only of course!

Right now we are in the glory days. Plenty of shops, plenty of varieties, reasonable pricing. As soon as this is legalized nationally, Really Big Corporations are going to move in crush the smaller growers and shops because they stand to make serious money. Choices will disappear, prices will rise. There will still be the dope equivalent to microbreweries here and there but to the masses advertised to on network TV, the corporations will rule. And while I get the grow-your-own idea, if I can get a gram of good dope for $10 (or less) that will last me weeks, why would I want to go through the work of planting, caring, harvesting, drying, storing it myself? I've done a lot of homebrewing beer in my past and came to the same conclusion that it was easier to buy it. Just my opinion of course. Yours may vary.

Folks did grow in the wilds many years ago in Hi. Before the values went so high and then green harvest came along with gov helicopters, equipped with special cameras that recognize the signature of M J growing amongst other vegetation. It's not as easy as some think. But strains have been developed that can produce extremely potent results if well cared for. Cheers Richard |

They are also an annual plant that grows through the spring and summer and flowers in the falls. Indoors that need to be simulated with 18 to 24 hour lights-on growing time and cut to 12 hours to get the plant to flower. Temperature regulation is also critical to most of the modern strains. Then there's "light pollution" mistakes in the off hours causing hermhphatie problems and self pollination. The stuff you guys are smoking now is not your 1970's $10 a bag stuff. It's serious science.

Dunno... with all due respect:
The product that was around in the 80's coming from Hawaii, NorCal, and Asia was pretty darn good and no doubt was grown outdoors. Note: I stopped smoking twenty years ago.

Pretty darn good from the 80s is total crap now. The THC percentages have increased exponentially.
Those that are saying it is so tough to grow, not so much. It is dead easy, easier than most house plants. To get maximum yield, sure you need quite a bit of effort. Producing for yourself is very very very easy. It is called weed for a reason. Indoor growing allows you to control almost every aspect of the environment, indoors even an idiot can grow decent weed if they can afford to buy the set up. Hell, you can get pre set up wardrobe grow "rooms" that you just add nutrients to and electronics take care of the rest. However, it smells quite a bit growing, that will deter many in and of itself. And growing is not part and parcel with regulation, a few provinces have prohibited production for yourself, allowing only licensed producers to grow. I am sure the states, when it eventually is federally legalized, will be a mish mash of state laws different from place to place.

You can buy feminized seeds mail order , guaranteed to sprout, guaranteed females, known strains and THC/CBD levels. Look at the google search below. NSFW if your workplace frowns on it.
I agree that indoor is a better, buddy next door told me outdoor weed is almost worthless now. Here the growing season is too short to grow from seed. Once you have a strain you like cloning is easy and cuts 2-3 months off of growing time. Cloning you just take a clipping and stick it in a pot. Sure there's a bit more to it, but no harder than growing tomatoes. I am researching it, if you don't want to get high you can get a strain called Charlotte's web, low on THC but high CBD. CBD is the medical part of the plant. I'm looking because we may try it with my autistic 19yr/old. https://www.google.ca/search?q=pot+seeds+canada&oq=pot+seeds&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l4.6511j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

You're very correct. The operations I know use indoor warehouses and split each growing section based on the stage the plant is at. High use of clones, and other methods to achieve very consistent product. To think of it, I don't know any weed that is grown outdoors. Maybe the Mexican dirt weed, but that stuff does not demand premium. I can see the green house method of sprouts and plant in the ground, but like you said you can't have a good control of males.

I have never spent a penny on drugs that were not prescribed. Well, with the exception of alcohol and a single pack of cigarettes. I went to a outdoor vending machine and bought a pack a Camels. I was 25 cents. I smoked 3 of them and decided that was the dumbest thing ever, tasted bad and made me cough. I was a kid so I regret to say I littered and threw them in the Alabama river. I have spent a lot on beer over the years. Burp.

The tech has probable come a long way but back in the day indoor lights couldn't come close to good old sunshine. Okay maybe outdoor you don't get the seasonal control that is desired for commercial production however for personal use you could probably get by on one harvest a year. It is also possible that indoor growing is superior because it has been developed/cultivated for decades, maybe they will start to develop outdoor strains, that would save a lot on electricity As an aside I am also looking at CBT for my wife's back pain and my arthritis, but I will probably gt get down to the pot store for that.

...But I did help finance a legal medical indoor growing operation very recently. I was blown away at how much went into it and how much can go wrong. 1000 watt HID lighting systems with pass-through air pressure to push the hot air out, $500 charcoal filters to keep the oder out of the extracted hot air, dehumidifiers, fans to strengthen plants and circulate air, CO2 bottles on timers, special Ph water, nutrients, HUGE A/C units, timers, timers, and more timers.

Oh I get ya. All that expensive crap is so the end product meets the demand of the retail market. The medical and legal dispensaries won't even talk to you if the stuff isn't perfect. If I was a stoner, I'd throw a few feminized seed in a pot out back and make do with what mother nature could produce.

My neighbors are mostly construction workers and I smell them puffing after work... One guy has a man cave in his garage, once in a rare while I go over to watch football and be neighborly (when I need furniture moved I stick my head in the garage and they drop everything to come over and help me) when they smoke it doesn't bother me I just pass it on to the next guy. One day in a lapse of judgement I figured "what the heck, how bad could it be." Two puffs. To quote Cheech Marin "I was seeing Aztec temples and $hit"
