Pretty car... Would love to have one, maybe lease first to see reliability, but I hate car payments.

The normally aspirated 5.0L engine has both long service intervals and seems to be pretty trouble free.

It is subject to the same need to take apart the top and clean the runners/valves just like other direct injection engines.

Jaguar also put a lot of effort into standard tool clearances and took reducing maintenance time seriously from an engineering standpoint.

The V8 supercharged car with the extra plumbing in the way isn't quite as simple for some jobs.

Not going to get into the whys and what hows but with a V8 SC I would change oil and filter more frequently than recommended.

I have no experience/knowledge with the 6, or 6 SC. All I know is it is the same basic engine design as the 8 but reconfigured to be a 6.

Hmmm. The ftype is my all season daily driver, except snow which we don't really get. Plenty of traffic and rain though. It is quiet and comfortable with good fuel economy when you're putzing around. Definitely a GT car. Every time I consider getting rid of it, there is nothing I'd want instead. Not into Italian exotics, new Astons are a hideous design (and a benz to boot)... Maybe a Bently, but too flashy. The Jaguar really is my favorite modern car.

The 550hp is linear and usable if one is careful with it. If not, it'll kill you, but it would be your own fault. You could also pull a planet up a mountain with it if you could fit a hitch.

As for the 991, drove like a Civic until 125mph. What's the point? Stupid impulse buy.

The 991 is a GT, roomy interior space, great ride, and it is not physically demanding to eat up miles with one regardless of if there is traffic or not traffic.

The Corvette and F-type on the other hand are cars for finding the unused roads where you run up and down a gear or two instead of just mosey through with heavy traffic.

I specifically take longer routes that get me out of the way of the populous with my Corvette and 944. My Jaguar XK(Which is much closer to a 991) I just take whatever route gets me there best.

Yeah, the 991 just had all the fun engineered out of it in a particularly German way. Made me switch brands, but I do keep a 356 around when I want the Porsche experience.

The bmw is a heavily modified 535is. There's a thread about it somewhere. 😁

Not an F Type comment, but Jaguar related (XF) so may help. I was a 25 year Audi guy and looking to replace my 2008 A4 manual sport suspension car. Still in great shape, but I was getting tired of my stick shift DD. My uncle has an A8L W12 and initially thought about that, but that length is too much for my garage. Then thought S8, but the gas mileage pushed me to consider the regular A8. Wanted the SWB car, but very few were imported into the US. Pickings are very slim for used cars. I was considering the MB E350 and BMW 535 xDrive. The BMW is $8-10k more for like MY and mileage, so no thanks. Plus the styling is not to my taste.

Decided on a 2016 E350 and made an offer on one when the wife said, thankfully, let's go look at the Jaguar again. Boom, done - that is the car. I decided on a 2016 XF with 17k miles. The build quality is excellent, gets really good reviews, handles fantastic and very neutral - better than the A6, 535, E350 - and Jaguar has a 5 year 60,000 warranty. I was worried about reliability, but Jaguar has done an excellent job in that area. My folks have a 2013 XJ and have not had a single warranty repair. I think you will really like the F Type. I certainly like the fact that you don't see many of them on the road unlike the ubiquitous Audi, M-B, BMW brands. I say go for it.

Pretty sure if the 991 does not appeal to him then the X150 is not for him.

Automatic only for one.

Gogar has a 5.0L XKR, I have a 2009 4.2L Normaly Aspirated.

I highly recommend them if they catch your interest.

I'm at about 74,000 miles on my 2009, only have needed fluids, filters, tail light, and am feeling the new for a battery replacement this winter.

2007-2009 is 4.2L engine, older engine design in use in the out going X100, most kinks worked out, reliable. Supercharged cars may need the supercharger refreshed from time to time.

2010-2015 5.0L direct injection engine, needs the top taken off for occasional cleaning. The direct injection also makes finer soot particles that present day oil filters are not designed to take care of. On a supercharged car I'd change oil closer to 2K or 3K instead of 5K-10K on the non supercharged.

In addition to a 5.0L engine the 2010+ get a faster shifting transmission. 2010XKR's and on are monsters when it comes to power.

The weak link is coolant leaks, some very minor. Just keep an occasional eye on the tank as a habit.

The XKR has an advantage of being a 2+2, so if you need to take on extra passengers in need you can, but the back seats are small.

I would consider the XKR to be a 928 successor.

One further comment... I'm not sure what folks mean by digital dash... My car has an analog tach and speedo with a small screen in between. More or less a homage to the etype.
