In this case the mom and dad are just plain stupid . They can dress the name up all they want it still equals stupid ! The only bright spot in the future is their daughter may be the only stripper/ porn star with that name . Friggin knuckle draggers .

On the drive back to sane-land, Virginia. We joked endlessly about it. I said. " Well she's already got her stripper / porn name......"

A great nickname for her would simply be "A C". Hey, what does it matter as long as her parents love her. Hope she has a happy life.

One of my buddies used to have a dog named Artie. Or that is what I thought it was until I saw the dogs tags. It was RD. It stood for Replacement Dog. Short, simple and funny. But it was dog.

I was lucky growing up with the simple name of Glen. No one ever came up with a twisted version of that for a nick name or insult. It does not rhyme with much, and has no other names tied to it like many names.

The worst one I ever heard was on Freakonomics I think. The kid was called '****head' The parents claimed it was pronounced 'Shu-teed' or something like that. I'd call that justifiable homicide if the poor kid goes postal on their parents.

I was at school with one of three sisters who were named Haily, Rainy and Stormy.

Knew a kid named Buffalo when I was growing up. His parents were hippies. This was the 70's.

(Chevelle doesn't strike me as that odd for some reason...)

My sister in law went to school with an abcde.

California.

The name isn't new.

And if someone has a unique name, you have to expect attention.

Dick was a hero where I grew up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Trickle

Fortunately for the kid, the chapter on names in Freakonomics said that there's no correlation between a name and the kid's eventual success in life. One example was a family who's father wanted his kids to be successful so much that he named his oldest son Winner. Winner turned out to be a crack dealer and drug addict. The rest of the kids were not much better and by the time the last kid was born the dad had enough. He named the last one Loser. At the time the book was written Loser was either a police or probation officer, I can't remember which, with a supervisory role and very respected in the community. He claimed the name never really bothered him and that most people just called him Lou anyway. Hopefully Miss Alphabet has the same experience.

There are so many names, why just use letters?

A lot of manes go through a popularity phase and then the next generation comes along. In my dating days I was constantly dating a different "Susan" or "Betty". Now it is rare to hear a kid named that. Ladies from my grandparents era had names like Florence, Bertha, and Gertrude. Those are pretty much not used anymore.

From Tom Lehrer.

"His name was Henry, but spelled it H-E-N-3-R-Y. The three was silent"

Hen3ry used to say "Life is like a sewer. What you get out of it mostly depends on what you put into it."

One of my friends has a student, Amfany. I expect it was supposed to be Anthony, which was my friend's name...

I've never known anyone with anything really stupid. I'm not sure what my parents would have called me if I'd been a girl. Maybe "Red-*****"

There is a family here with the last name Silva. They have three sons: Sterling, Quick and Hi-Ho. They were quite well known in drag racing circles.

Abcde's mom may be nuts, but that gate agent is another level of disturbed, making fun of a 5yo and posting it on facebook.....

It's nice that Star Wars has sort of passed. Have seen 2 Anakins and one Stormtrooper.

My 'favorite' remains Oranjello named for the gelatin served after a C-section.

disclaimer: I can't verify the last one as hard truth.

If Abcde's parents are reading this, and if they want to mitigate any damage that this is going to cause the poor kid, try legally renaming her Absiddy; then, a long explanation doesn't have to follow each and every time some poor teacher or ticket agent or prospective employer has to read and pronounce her name for the first time.
