Resume Help

My daughter Jillian has launched an online resume business, called Razzle Your Resume (www.resumerazzle.com). She's really good at helping students and young professionals with their resumes... especially those who are experiencing difficulties with getting a job interview.

Check website here: https://www.resumerazzle.com/

She is offering 50% off for the month of February & March

Thanks for spreading the word,
Guy

The price is a bargain to make them pop. Maybe too much value?

How old is she, may I ask? My daughter has mad writing skills and in her early 20's was fierce. Now that she is working at Apple at 29 she does not get to flex her true craft muscle as much. (no jokes please - sheesh)

My daughter is exceptional Bob as is your daughter. She did a web design course in her teens and is on maternity leave till April. As a Phd she is back to work as Research Director at Medical Faculty Univ of Alberta. She is 30 years of age and has a great future. One more year to go of a two year contract. Perhaps post doc after that or?

You mention Apple Bob. She has a school friend that works at Apple in marketing(San Diego I think).

Cheers, Guy

Nice domain name too. Congrats!

Can I suggest a few more examples of her best work?

Define “young professional”... not getting interviews, so maybe my resume is in need of an update.

Call me old school.............but does glitz and bling and more Graphics design taking up 2/3rds of the facts and data behind a resume work?

Vertical Bars and Histogram graphs with Time Lines?

Maybe it's the Dilbert Management system of today. As a hiring manager, I want substance .

imho

but do have her list more examples..........needs more meat.

All I ever needed the resume for was to stand out from a sea of candidates....as a youngin'.

I was not/am not a bling bling guy....but whatever it takes these daze....just to get that foot in the door imo. Honestly....after a few years of experience...resumes were a non-factor in my corporate IT career....

I would suggest your daughter post like crazy on LinkedIn. Use the basic search option and indentify every recruiter in her city and state. Send them invitations to join her LinkedIn network. Ask for referrals from the recruiters. Broadcast the success of her clients. Build a pipeline and market to her LinkedIn network.

Good idea, but my feedback is the same. I would probably give more attention to the "before" version than the "after"...unless I was hiring a relatively low level graphics or administrative person. It seems gimmicky. Of course I am an old guy...but most of us that hire the high-level folks with high-salary potential jobs are also old guys. Maybe it is different start-ups or in CA (Google and Apple) or in smaller organizations.

This is especially true in government positions or large organizations where you have to get past rigid qualification rules or a stodgy HR dept.

I do know that my own resume is far too long and could use condensing (as experience used to be more valued than recent "wins"...and that is not necessarily the case now). Cover the last 10 years instead of the previous 30 (which just makes me look old).

Maybe a plain paper, black-and-white traditional version would be more marketable in parallel with the version shown.

The issue with resume publishing now and use of graphics and such is that the automated systems that are the "front door" for most companies can get confused and miss on any of the key word searches that would trigger that resume to be reviewed by a human. The entire content of the "pretty" resume can be garbled.

Taleo is one of the most used systems - by over 30% of the Fortune 500. This is just one source that explains the issue:

The use of a plain text (Word doc) might be beneficial for on-line applicants - and then provide a "pretty" version in person for the interview and or career fair.

I was going to raise this issue also. I know my company uses an automated system to fish for key words to move the resume/applicate to the front of the line. Something to be aware of.

Yes. At one time, my organization did...and it continually eliminated me from jobs I was well qualified for. It never got to the hiring managers. Had to make it very long and detailed to hit all the key words (5 or 6 pages for a senior position).

She'd be happy to help you! Apparently she has had quite a few experienced professionals wanting to update their resumes. You can email her at resumerazzle@gmail.com
