Painted the fence in the backyard. Fortunately it’s only about 40 feet worth.

Later on, I worked on the Schwinn stingray some more. Took everything apart and scrubbed the surface rust with 0000 steel wool.

Pictures before cleanup.

Geez, between short daylight after work and finicky weather I finally finished the driver's side. New wheel bearing hub assembly and brake pads, painted caliper and bracket. The rotor is actually not that old but it has been in the weather a bit, it will shine back up after a few miles. We got started on the passenger side but I broke a socket adapter when using an impact on the hub nut, then it started raining. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0407e3dcdc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b09b84901b.jpg

More clean up on the Schwinn Stingray. I need to figure way to clean the frame up. I can get the grease off but maybe a light polish to make it glossy again.

I noticed the seat post where it attaches to the bottom of the banana seat was all but broken. Looks like metal fatigue. I need to figure way to reattach it. Maybe take it apart and weld it.

I did not like the tires I first ordered, so I’ve ordered another set. Should be here tomorrow.

Edit. After over restoring my 45 year old Seiko watch and regretting it, I’m trying to use all the original parts. The rear fender is pretty beat up and I don’t know if I can straighten it out enough to make it look decent. I’m not sure about the seat… maybe an STP sticker is the fix!

Got some new parts on the way. The sway bar end links and ball joints on the passenger side of the car looked pretty worn out so I have all new stuff coming. We will change the factory plastic end links, front and rear, to steel ones. We will have to take the driver's side back apart but it's okay. This car is not a daily driver so we are not in a time crunch. Can't wait to drive the car with the all new stuff, it already handled well but now will be even tighter. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7923b0899c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c2a3491df4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9aae2e92d4.jpg

The light house had a problem with the tree outside breaking in a couple places so I got the job of gluing it back together. Ceramic is kind of fiddly to get the pieces just right.

The hard part will be getting the lights back in it and placing it back in the scene without breaking anything else.

^^^.
My outdoor lighthouse is needing fixin also. The rotating signal light doesn't rotate in freezing temps.

Scott Douglas 12-12-2022 09:55 AM

Our freezing temps haven't bothered our lighthouse. :)

Successfully reinstalled to the scene and lighted!

Replaced hid bulbs, not an easy job. You can barely get your hand in to rotate a locking ring to remove the bulb. The passenger side you have to remove the air box.
It was freezing outside and I barely stuffed the vehicle in the garage

What did you replace them with and did that help your down the road view?
My 2016 one ton headlamps are not great.

Brian 162 12-12-2022 05:40 PM

^^^^ I just replaced them with replacement hid bulbs from Partsource. They were the same bulbs as what I took out. They were pricey $150 each, the dealer wanted $300 each. The old bulbs were dim
Yes it made a difference, better than before.

As previously reported......the Volvo received a new headliner today!

I had some time to kill while waiting so went on walkabout for about 3 hours. This train store was a block away. Owned by the same guy for 35 years. He said there were only 2 other stores like his in the entire state now.

Wow Baz, I could spend some time in that store.
Just so happens I'm working on a locomotive for my sis-in-law's husband who inherited it from his dad. I think his controller is toast and welded the motor solid. I've got a new one on the way.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671250428.JPG
I also fixed his daughter's loco which wasn't running right. Needed a new friction tire and track pickup. Works great now and will get a workout this weekend at the big family gathering.

Old electric model train prices have gone nuts around here.

I suspect people were sitting around the house during covid with too much time on their hands thinking "I think I'd like a model train like I had as a kid. In fact I want the exact make and model."

Made a magazine rack for the bathroom and will be making more for family.

Using the flooring in the back of the rack was a nice touch to tie things together.

Just about finished with the Stingray. Still need to shine up the paint and decals. I did not want to over restore it, so I used mostly original parts that I buffed out.

Looks great! Upside down but still great!
