5 or so years compared to Tesla?
Tesla was formed in 2003 and released it's first vehicle in 2008. |

At the risk of being labeled as a fanboy, I find that Elon Musk has managed to accomplish a number of things that were unheard of prior.
He got NASA off its ass and back in business He developed an electronic automobile, and the systems it requires. He developed a reusable rocket He is developing a number of other unrelated products and systems that will benefit mankind. I think he is a unique human being, in very important ways.

Every new house built in CA has to supply its own electrical power
Take a look at the Tesla power installations in Australia Take a look at the factory expansion in NY to build solar roof tiles

Bingo.
To seriously understand TSLA from a market perspective, you have to avoid comparing it to a car manf. - it is a car and energy co. Also strip out the momentum hype from the stock. If they survive (which is now seeming increasingly likely), they have a good chance of transforming the entire part of the economy related to energy. That includes land vehicles, power generation facilities, and storage. If they do that, the stock price now is nothing. Obviously highly speculative... |

He was charged with security violations by the SEC and then broke the settlement several times and was forced to give up his board of directors seat He used $2.6 billion of investor dollars to save his cousins company that was insolvent. He is clearly a brilliant guy who also clearly has issues. He is easily his own worst enemy. |

Haters gonna hate. One really important accomplishment is he open sourced his patents to further the technology. https://thedriven.io/2019/02/04/tesla-patents-free-to-use-sustainable-strength/ . That takes some balls.

Tesla spends $1 million annually on Washington lobbyists. Its cars are financed by over $280 million in federal tax incentives, including a $7,500 federal tax break and millions more in state rebates and development fees. SpaceX has also received over $5 billion in government support. It has over promised and under delivered. SpaceX rockets, for example, are far less reliable than many of its competitors. This is outlined in reports from December 2017 and January 2018 in which the Department of Defense Inspector General and NASA's Aerospace Safety Advisory Council described a list of security concerns they have with SpaceX, among them 33 significant non-conformities."

Lifo is used outside the oil industry. It is accepted by US practice. Dell, Wal Mart, and GE use the method. Intangible drilling allows early deduction for site prep and other items. They pay less tax this year but will pay more down the road since the items are already deducted. MLPs are not only for O&G. To qualify for a MLP a company must earn 90% of its income through activities or interest and dividend payments relating to natural resources, commodities or real estate. Most MLP tend to be energy related though O&G are not the only ones to take advantage. You can see others that use MLP here. https://www.dividendinvestor.com/master-limited-partnerships-alphabetical/ |
