Tiger Woods' Return today
First round of competitive golf in what, a year and a half?
He picked a limited entry event (only 18 players) with no cut, so there's no chance he'll finish worse than 18th or miss the cut and not (involuntarily) be playing on the weekend. Shot a 40 on the back 9 and is in second to last. Predictions? Will he finish the tournament or withdraw because of "injury?" Will he win another Major? Will he win another tournament? |

Some good shots today. Pretty hard to make a stellar performance after being out of the tournies for so long. 50/50 if he will ever be a winner again as there are so many good young players out there. Entertaining to watch though.

"Some good shots today" sounds like my rounds of golf!
I agree with you. 50/50 on ever winning a tourney again, although I think almost zero of winning another major. It's an interesting story. I think it's amazing how his golf game completely changed immediately after he hit that fire hydrant. It's like from that moment, a switch got flipped and he's never been the same. |

I think that having a good partner in life can help an individual particularly in a high profile sport like golf. Like you say he was doing well till he hit the fire hydrant aka got caught being a bad Tiger. Like I always say that an individual does not know what he has until it has gone. He probably felt like the rug was pulled from under his feet. Such is life.

Arnie said he wouldn't surpass Jack Nicolas record. Tiger didn't have it in his eyes anymore was the comment associated with his statement.
Tiger lost his aura of invincibility one night. In other words he self destructed, and bought himself down much like Icarus.

Tiger will never, ever, be as good as he was. He's playing because its time. That 9 iron to the head thrashed him for good. Oh well, play well Tiger, it was fun while you were there.

I don't see him ever winning any event again with a deep field much less a major.
It just over..his body is the oldest 39/40 year old on tour and the current field is much better than when he was in his prime. I also think his confidence has been rattled to the core and anybody who plays the game knows that is a bigger issue than the physical side. He was great for the game but I'm really surprised he has not taken it to the house and call it a career.

He is a strange dude. His father destroyed him.

If he does win a major again, it would be like Beethoven coming out with his 9th symphony, deaf as a post, 10 years after his last one and when everyone assumed the Maestro was done.

Ok here are my thoughts on Tiger
To the OP he chose this tourney to return to golf because this is "his" tournament not because there's only 18 players. For all the mural haters....yes he made a huge life mistake but many of us have made major mistakes of all kinds, that's life And by the way for the ppl who don't know, him and his ex are best friends to this day, so if she can forgive him that says a lot Personally, I am 38yrs old and started playing the game at 16 solely because of his influence. Golf has become my life and all my friends who I love as family, would not have come to me if it wasn't for the game. Whether he ever wins again who knows? But be damn sure I will be watching and cheering him on For the one who said these guys today are so much better them him in his prime? Really? There's not one person on tour right now that compares to him in his prime, Jordan and Rory were expected to but they can't seem to get it done like he did

Sorry if I did not make my point clear. The guys today are not better than him when he was in his prime but the totality of the current field today is better than it has ever been. It just makes it harder for anyone person to dominate or more to the point for a Tiger to win again. Nice to hear you are getting so much enjoyment out of the game. It is a great game.

He's done, both mentally and physically. I wish he would just accept reality because his recent struggles overshadow his prior greatness. There's something to be said for retiring at the top of your game under your terms.

The Mike Tyson of golf. Explodes onto the scene, then implodes. He was an absolute phenom. Used to be when Tiger was in a tourney the buzz would be about who was going to finish second! Combination of physical gremlins and personal demons took him out of contention I'm sure.

They used to fear and respect him, now he's just a joke.
He gets injuries, losses his temper, plays only certain events. He's a prima donna that has lost the prima. What has he done for the game, just invited the crazies that want to yell, you da man! The PGA wants to keep him around but that will eventually wind down with his mediocre performances. Tiger didn't do anything for the game of golf, unfortunately; he did it all for himself. Maybe he will be remembered for his foundation, at least some good can come from his game but his behavior off the course is appalling in my eyes. |

Tiger succumbed to the only two things he knows: himself and golf.

I hope he can bounce back to whatever level he is capable of. I'd hate to not see where he could go due to retirement. I think there's unfinished business with him and he is one that could surprise us all. It wasn't just his personal life that took him down- there have been some surgeries and the book is still open. Personally, he's a scumbag. But that won't stop me from watching arguably the best player ever.
