Measles Booster?

It seems only a matter of time before a measles epidemic.

I had my vaccinations back whenever I had them. I mean, Janis, Jim and Jimi were still Rocking On.

Should I get a booster or something?

I'm thinking you should get a really clean E28.

You could easily go to your doctor and get a titer to check your immunity level. Most insurance pays for it.

As for people upset: 5-10% of vaccinated people's body do not process the vaccine the same as others and they will have no immunity. Measles is caused by a virus and viruses can mutate. The more people who are passing it around, the more likely there is a mutation that will not be affected by the vaccine.

Maybe

Hep B has a three part vaccine. You get three shots spread out. It is possible to check your titer(count your antibodies to Hep B) and you get an additional shot if you are low. The protocol is to check every 10 years and if your titer is low, you get the booster. Mine has always been okay, my wife had to get the booster. I do not know if there is something similar for measles. I got the shots as a kid and also in boot camp. They even gave me the small pox vaccine again at Great Lakes if I remember right.

I was wondering about a measles booster. As a kid born in the 50s, into the Air Force I had all my vaccinations. I had the mumps twice as a kid. I remember having chicken pox, but I don't remember if I had the measles as a kid.

I had smallpox vaccinations twice. It only "took" the first time.

Uh, if it took the first time, why was there a second time? And how would you know if the second one didnt take if you already had the antibodies? No need to answer. Just bored, sitting on a plane waiting to take off with about 200 other people with god knows what diseases.

The second time was not logical as far as I was concerned. It was about 1971 and we lived in Hawaii. The Air Force insisted the entire family get it again to move back to the mainland. My dad filled up two immunization books, but he flew all over the world.

Being in our 60s and having our original shots as kids, my wife and I talked about getting booster shots and will be contacting our local pharmacy to see if they give shots without a doctors order.

Hearing about people losing vision, hearing, temps of 103 and going into comas is enough for one minor moment of discomfort.

Afterburn, do some research on your own to answer your question. I would recommend the CDC and Mayo Clinic for authoritative answers.

This is not logical
Its people's lack of understanding about how vaccinations work that is leading to the resurgence of these once eradicated diseases.

Having the vaccination on an individual level is not a guarantee that when exposed you will not be infected. It's only when a critical mass of the population is vaccinated that the disease no longer has enough hosts that are sufficiently susceptible to take hold. When the population falls below this level the virus can again take hold and all are susceptible to some degree.

Never mind that there are those with compromised immune systems that cannot get the vaccine and rely solely on other people to be inoculated to not become infected themselves. In my opinion you are an ******* if you don't vaccinate. As part of a society you owe certain things to it as a member. If you don't want to a part of it live off the grid, home school your kids, and stay away from public places.

the anti-vac -ers are not logical

in some cases the vac does not last as longs as others
so a booster shot is a good idea

btw if you had chicken pox get the vac shot for shingles
my kid got shingles and it is a real pain and can reacure

You get boosters on the tetanus vaccine every 10 years, or are supposed to.

When I was in college, measles popped up and they required everyone to go get the shot. I felt like crap that night.

My wife & I just got the 2nd Shingrix vaccination. My shoulder hurts like hell. A really clean E28 would probably make it feel a lot better.

I think I've received a few vaccines of mmr. Plus the extra in basic, and whatever else they fit in at srp.

Here’s an article that describes the various protocols for the measles vaccine over the years and how effective they were. It’s worth noting that mishandling of the vaccine can render it useless.

I remember getting a series of Vaccines before I went to India in 1988. I think the Typhoid required multiple. And every time I felt sick afterwards.

I was "naturally" immunized against all of the Childhood diseases, except Chickenpox. My mother came down with shingles. I remember not having chicken-pox, so I was tested for the antibody. Nope. I had to get vaccinated at 48. Had to get a prescription, as they will not give it out to under 50 without a prescription. I probably will need to get a booster for that in a few years
