Ain't gonna happen.

This is still in the news, I've only now been able to catch up with it.

From what I can tell #1 War of Will screwed over #18 Long Range Toddy (the black horse).

I don't know any of the rules for this, but War of Will should not be rewarded for this in my opinion.

Attorney for Maximum Security jockey rebuts Casse: ‘Your horse started all this’

An attorney for Maximum Security’s jockey said that she gave a video to racing stewards who met Friday to review the Kentucky Derby disqualification.

Ann Oldfather said that the stewards took the video, prepared using NBC YouTube footage to demonstrate that Luis Saez was not guilty of “foul riding.”

“They didn’t commit to look at it but said they would consider it,” Oldfather said late Friday. “I’m certain they want to do the right thing.”

Saez was not at the review session in person. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission stewards have not released findings of fault in the race yet.

A seven minute length video in the link provides an extensive analysis of the race and the several incidents involved.

In any case the two horses that caught my attention in the initial incident didn't do well at all, everyone moves up one from the list below I guess.

Kentucky Derby Results 2019: Final Race Chart, Finishing Times and Purse

17. Long Range Toddy; Jon Kenton Court; Steven M. Asmussen (17 ¾ lengths)
16th or 17th finish when Long Range Toddy was in second place at one time - sports is tough.

Maximum Security gets hit from behind a half dozen times and gets tossed out for what, winning?

That video seems to prove that is a bad ruling. War of Wills is the one who impeded and interfered.
I agree.

You obviously have to have some rules, I don’t think a horse race can be a free for all.

But that video sure does seem to clear Maximum Security. Or at least explain why he did what he did, which was try to get away from that other horse who struck him many times and put him in real danger or going down.

In the expert opinion clip the guy says it was a good call because MS clearly interfered the other horses, but that ignores the fact the War of Wills clearly interfered MS first, and many times, which caused MS to have to protect itself.

What a mess for the Derby.
Certainly was a mess, and maybe still is a mess.

You're right. It won't happen voluntarily. The stewards made a hasty, high-pressure decision in 20-minutes that is now being re-evaluated frame-by-frame by all sorts of experts with unlimited time & resources - they have a big advantage over the stewards. This will ultimately be decided by litigation due to the amount of money involved.

So interesting. The Pros I called right after the race are, like me, having a bit of the "prisoner of the moment" regret...there was a lot more bump and grind than I/we thought.

I love the "horse racing sucks for the horses" crowd as they chow down on their steaks, no solace given to the cows that gave their lives so they may eat.

Cow racing.

My question is if there seems to be overwhelming evidence that a lot more was going on than originally thought, why did they make the disqualification call in the first place. You would think such a unprecedented decision would have indisputable evidence to back it up, even with only 20 minutes to make it. If someone is going to disqualify the winner of the Kentucky Derby, there really shouldn't be so much uncertainty in the evidence.

Have any of you ever seen Chuck Wagon Racing? Imagine 4 thoroughbreds hitched to a wagon and 2 more outriders on thoroughbreds per ‘wagon’. 4 wagons race at the same time. They start with a figure 8 and then race around a 1/2 mile race track. It is very exciting to watch.

My son goes to school with the Glass twins, their dad Jason races as did his dad and grandfather.

This is amazing to watch.

https://www.aol.com/article/news/2019/05/13/maximum-securitys-jockey-suspended-after-kentucky-derby-disqualification/23725446/

Stewards for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission announced in a statement Monday that Luis Saez, Maximum Security’s jockey, is suspended 15 days for interfering with riders during the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby.

The stewards met with those involved Friday. Saez and his lawyers provided a video alleging War of Will and his jockey were the ones to interfere. The video highlights language used by announcers during the race and the “domino effect” caused by War of Will that also resulted in the horse scraping against Maximum Security’s hooves.

Maximum Security crossed the finish line first but was later disqualified, a first for the Kentucky Derby. Country Horse was named the winner while Maximum Security

The KHRC suspended Saez for “failure to control his mount and make the proper effort to maintain a straight course thereby causing interference with several rivals that resulted in the disqualification of his mount.”

No other jockeys will be punished, per the statement. Saez will be suspended beginning May 23. It runs through June 14.

And Max Sec owner has offered 5 million to any of the top 4 Derby horses that beat him in any race this year. They they don't have to win the race, just beat him. Each gets one shot.

As far as the lawsuit each side will have experts on their side. They won't win the suit.

Suit was filed in Federal Court. There's also a $100 Million class-action suit in the works for those who wagered on Maximum Security. This will taint the Derby for years to come.
