New VW Advert-Electric Bus /Owning Deiselgate

Gotta say, this is actually pretty ball-**y and effective.

Sappy, over the top. Nice van. Most criminals are sorry they got caught, especially when fine millions of dollars.

VW was for sure caught red handed. But so many other manufacturers were doing the same thing, and just got away with it.

The one bit of information I would like to know is just how high up the chain of command did the foreknowledge go on the scheme. Did the top brass really know? or was it indeed something done my subordinates just to meet unrealistic sales goals and emission standards.

We will never know the whole truth. In the end a very wealthy company will spend a small part of the profits as a penance, and one engineer was arrested in the USA for it.

Modern diesels (even the "rogue" VW ones) are actually pretty green. There have been recent studies claiming they're greener than EV when the entire production lifecycle is factored, but I think that is BS. They're not greener the EV cars, especially ones on a solar charger, but nothing like the diesels I grew up with.

But modern diesels are still "cleaner" than most modern gas cars.

I bought an 1986 Diesel Golf new and drove it for 4-1/2 years, and never once had an issues with Diesel smell.

Now a days I cannot be within 200 feet of a Diesel without wanting to puke.

If they are better I sure don't react that way.

The new low sulfur fuel is a disaster in the older vehicles, they pollute much more now in my opinion.

And what's with with the noise?

Diesels used to sound like marbles in a coffee can, now they sound like scraps of metal in a blender at high speed.

If diesels got 200 mpg and never ever broke, and had the performance of a new Corvette I would not buy one because the stink. My MIL had a diesel and it was great for so many things, until you have to go to a truck stop to get fuel and walk through a sticky slick parking lot coated in fuel and have it ruin my shoes and need rubber gloves to hold the nozzle.
The diesel fuel stinks.

Interesting. I'd be tempted if they made that. I love my electric car and have wondered if anyone would make an electric wagon. I love wagons, it's my European-thing. An electric VW bus could be a step beyond wagon cool.

The only time I had an issue with a stinky fuel pump handle was at a truck stop in Canada while on vacation.

That stink is hard to wash off.

Gas stations where cars and light trucks go were never an issue for me.

If they make that and it has good range, I might drive one to compliment my bay window bus

Interesting since I would fuel mine at regular run of the mill stations like Chevron, Arco, Shell where I put gas in the 911. Too bad you are forming your opinion on the exception rather than the general rule. Never stepped in diesel fuel once.

They knew from the top! Even if the information is half true, it's pretty disgusting. VW isn't alone -
