The Rolling Stones wrote the soundtrack for the last 50 years.
The show was 90 minutes of songs everybody knew every word of. Keith sort of wandered around in what looked like a daze for most of the night--I expected them to issue a Silver Alert for him. But, listening to some video I shot last night, it's amazing just how remarkable his guitar playing still is. He never plays the same thing twice--every verse is different. He just kind of shoots a look over at Ronnie Wood, and Wood fills in the blanks. It's great to watch two guys who have played together so long communicate that way. I heard somewhere that Mick and Keith have been seen live by more people than any other humans in history. And that that is a record that is likely to stand for a long time. The Stones have been a top-line act for over 50 years--kings and popes, dictators and presidents don't last that long, or get seen live as often. |

WIKI:
The Wall of Sound is a music production formula developed by American record producer Phil Spector at Gold Star Studios in the 1960s, with assistance from engineer Larry Levine and the session musician conglomerate later known as "the Wrecking Crew" |

You guys are talking about 2 different things by the same name. Spector's WOS was simply to leave no dead space in a recording and to use multiple instruments on separate tracks all blended to sound like a whole orchestra playing at once all complimenting the tune from every angle with copious duplication.
The Dead's WOS was just that, a wall of speakers. |

Exactly! But the picture was from Owsley's big experiment.
The same Owsley Stanley who mixed up all the LSD for Ken Kesey's Electric Kool-Aid acid test.

Will be going next week to another 'final tour', but no question they're icons and worth it. Amazing they're still vertical after all these years!
