Some guy in Ms. owed my BIL some money for some construction he did and offered to GIVE him a '58 C-172. He didn't want it or need the money I guess because he said it's mine if I want to come get it. It was ran every few months but had not been in the air in over 15 years and had the old crystal type radios in it. I did a lot of research and even getting it for free was not worth it. Figured on well over $15K just to get it legal and airworthy so I passed on the deal. .

I had an old Apache for a few years. It was a great plane. Super roomy and fast. It had the Geronimo upgraded engines (180HP - w/turbos), twin vacuum pumps, twin hydraulic pumps, piped in O2, etc.. Had some great trips in that thing!!

Took a flight to Denali while on a Anchorage layover last summer.
Figured out I’d flown this airplane when it was a floatplane in Ketchikan 25 yrs ago!

Prior airplane, 56 182. Saved from a jump center and refreshed. New paint, full interior, etc. I kept the RH jump door though:

I'll add Mt. Baker:

Past Hangar/home near Seattle. First, second and third aircraft inside. A 1946 Aeronca 7AC myself and wife learned to fly in, a 69 Maule M-4 being rebuilt and the 56 182:

Not sure if Unmanned Aviation is welcome here, but I am heavily involved in it. My company has been working on this, the Vanilla Ultra Long Endurance UAS. The goal is tens days non-stop. They have demonstrated 5 days endurance with additional flights soon.

We refurbished the first two and are doing production preparation for future Vanilla's.

Oohhhhh yeah, bring it on.

That is cool, keep us in the mix on what your allowed to share. Interesting timing too.

This morning at around 0400 as I was setting up for my turn to final, 3 miles(nobody around at that time and off setting that distance does allow me a slight advantage if there is an emergency with the plane, something about flying over the foothills, at night make me think of those things). I glanced towards the West and noticed a stationary set of lights right about pattern altitude. It was just hangin without any noticeable change. It appeared to be hovering just out there.
UPS flys into KMHR and right over Placerville in the early hours. Even though they are, up there, they still look really low. I though maybe it was just one of their heavy’s on the approach as it descended but it was much closer and looked big by the intensity of the lights. No hit on the ADS-B in receiver.

Made me go...........[emoji848]

What has been your experiences with the different ADS-B receivers used?
Stratus
Stratux (that’s what I built and am using)
Sentry
Sentry Mini
Uavionix
Actually any of the ones available and it’s reliability, accuracy, power source (battery or hard wired) and ability to interface with whatever electronic E6B device your using.

Feel free to expand on where it is mounted horizontal, vertical and orientation to the aircraft. What has or hasn’t worked for you particular situation or even issues you’ve encountered with reception on a high or low wing.

Cheers

And for good measure, it you want to through in some info on the ADS-B “out” you have installed, going to install and thinking of installing. Just think of this as an all around ADS-B topic[emoji6]

What with ADS-B requirement approaching, maybe this article from AOPA would help.

kinda old, but...

^^^Thanks,
I have been researching different options and still haven’t committed. I am looking at peoples experiences with the different systems they decided to go with. Also what different mounting options and why? I ask, not to critique but to get an idea what works and why it works. Ram suction mounts vs yoke, kneepad, etc. I am hoping that an experience someone has will be something I hadn’t thought about, hence learning something new.

I am also looking at updating the ol iPad so I can run a quality e6b program in addition to evaluating my Stratux. Due to the age of my pad, I’ve experienced lagging and crashes with the program(FlyQ). Like today, while working with the longeze on a flight into the valley and pattern work. The pad crash was a inconvenience, since it is much faster than my commuter. Ultimately it comes down to planning and being ahead of the plane.
