In the Fall of '68 I was just coming off a tour as 2nd mechanic/flunky for a F 5000 team with Rex Ramsey as the driver of a Le Grand. '69 was a throw away year for me except for a relationship that culminated in a marriage to my first wife in '73.

In January of '70 I started work on the Queen Mary as a painter. I did a lot of varnishing of the preserved first class cabins. There was a lot of rote work as well. This put me square in front of a now nearly 50 year career in the trades. I was 25 and in need of direction.

I got it. College was wasted on me unless you count the fact that I can speel gud. I never was destined to wear a long sleeve shirt and tie like every other male in my family.

True story - Joni wrote that tune while her boyfriend and buddies were actually AT Yasgur's farm. She, too, was supposed to attend, but her agent worried she wouldn't get out in time to make an appearance on the Dick Cavet show. Turned out, CSN&Y rented a helicopter and had no trouble themselves also making it out on time. They even made it to the Cavet show uninvited (Stills still had Woodstock mud on him). JM was really bummed out about it for years.

OTOH, others suggest that it was much better with Joni having written it from afar...

1969. The year I bought my first car.
The only time I purchased a new car.
Couldn't have been happier.
Quite young, living in Halifax NS. Very different city back then. (Weren't they all)
The height of the mini skirt era, and jump suits, remember them?
I worked in Cape Breton at the time so I had a great ride to CB on Sun evening and a return trip to Hfx Fri aft.

1969 Fiat 124 Spyder. Loved it.
Imagine, DOHC, 5 sp manual box, disc brakes all around. Stuff pretty well unheard of on N/A cars.
My mini Ferrari .
Oh, to be able to go back.

Graduated college June 1969. Got the letter to report September. Born May 11, number in the low '50's as I recall.

Zeke, I know the Rex Ramsey car. Basically a Formula B car with a 600 lb V-8. Yikes. Red LeGrand was a good friend from '71 until the day he died. Owned a couple of his cars in the North Hollywood days. Small world.

I was 10. I was still playing with my Matchbox cars but was transitioning to building 1/25 scale models and HO slot cars.

Lottery #333, my college roommate had a low number and died in Vietnam later that year. I graduated college and got my first real job with A.C. Nielsen Co. in Evanston IL I lasted 3 months, quit because my boss was a loser brown-noser. Good as any reason I guess..
