a pool etiquette discussion

4 minute video...long one pocket match. $20,000 to the winner...who was the little guy racking. Language warning..some F bombs. "I'm better than you. Just accept it!" LOL!

I thought this thread was going to be about peeing in the pool- good etiquette says no peeing in the pool or on the table; hope this helps.

There's a difference between peeing in the pool and peeing into the pool. I was at a party and someone yelled at me for peeing in the pool; I said "Hey, everyone does it!" They said "Sure, but not from the diving board!"

LOL! Loved both the movie clips. BTW, that was no Balabuska in the movie. Cue made by Joss Cues. Decent shooters. They still make it.

Rare exception for movie pool hall scenes. Both Cruise and Newman were well coached, actually look like good players when making shots. Cruise had never held a cue before the movie but with coaching turned into a real life good amateur. Newman already knew how to play, having learned from none other than Willie Mosconi while filming The Hustler. World Champ Mike "Captain Hook" Sigel was the movie "technical consultant". Lots of real players had bit parts...

Pool table etiquette:

Good friend's previous girlfriend wanted him to 'take her' on his pool table. He said no, just had the table professionally leveled. She thought he was kidding, jumped on. He broke up with her.....

Real story.

I understand...really, I do. A good table deserves respect and care. This beautiful Brunswick Centennial probably cost the owner well into five figures in purchase, set up and restoration costs. Also, top level Simonis tournament cloth ain't cheap.

I promise not to swim in your toilet, if you promise not to pee in my pool. That sign was hanging in our patio/pool area when my parents bought the home I grew up in .

A pool in the backyard! I never knew you grew up fancy, Fred. We had a mud puddle in our back yard and we thought we were the luckiest kids on the street!

Thanks for the backstory stuff, Paul. I remember reading about some of it but not in the detail you posted. Good stuff!

We used to have a pool hall here in town - right on our "main street" (Canal Street). Would go there to play snooker on the snooker tables with the smaller sized pockets and then when we played 8 ball at night in the local bars on the standard billiard tables, those pockets looked like freaking caverns!

We usually didn't play for money or anything - just the opportunity to keep playing whose ever's quarters were up next.

Sadly, the pool hall eventually closed up and I'm not even sure what took it's place here. Worth checking out, I guess.

it was our very own cement pond!!

I grew up in a nice sterile suburban neighborhood . I was always thankful for getting to grow up in a nice place.
I spent as much time in the mud and in the woods, as I did in the pool

Hell, if you were a kid on western Oregon, everybody had mud puddles! I remember being excited when the town finally paved our street. Made bike riding much easier.

Hmmm, somebody needs to quit using cone chalk and talc....and clean those rails! Olhausen?

Seven and a half years ago I went to the pool hall with a co-worker and friend. After he left, the co-worker and I stuck around for a few more cold beers and a few games of 8 ball. Near closing time, I knocked the 8 ball in on the break, turned to her and gave her a kiss, took her back to my place, dropped her panties, and we've been together ever since.

True story.

Lol

The lighting makes it look funky. The felt does need to be replaced after about 10,000 games.
