Clean water is pretty g'damn important. Especially in 3rd world countries.

What you ninnies are doing is pointing at one potential small downside and saying LOOK - SO TERRIBLY HARMFUL ... as if that does one bit of good.

Plastics are awesome. The device you are using now has all sorts of plastic. And potential e-waste. When countries start throwing heavy metal batteries into rivers do we ban cell phones and electric cars?

Seriously, I'll say it again, If you can not separate out the idea of consumer goods utility and waste management I don't know what to say. Maybe that you're stupid?
It might be that I work in a place that uses thousands of syringes and needles each day. And yet, that waste is dwarfed by the amount of plastic waste in bottle form alone. Your drawing plastic syringes and needles into this discussion is obtuse...just like 99% of the crap you roll out here. Being your routine doesn't make any less insulting to people trying to contribute or learn here.

BTW, here is my pick for reusable water bottles.

https://www.foodbev.com/news/fiji-water-releases-flip-top-bottle-to-attract-health-conscious-consumers/

Super light weight, cap stays attached, clear plastic allows UV to pass and inhibit growth of scum.

That's not an argument. You're simply missing the point for an opportunity to be an ass.

Bottled water has huge utility. Tell me why I'm wrong. -go.

And that waste is highly managed. It's not thrown in to the local river.

dwarfed may be a bit much. Medical waste is huge, but again, it is highly managed. Out of sight, out of mind. Seattle streets, not so much.

Is it? Especially when the point is to highlight the utility of disposable plastics.

But at least you got to be an emotional ass, of the hole kind.

You mean the programs in the schools where them "scientists" that we don't want to believe once we educate them went? You know, why would we try solve a problem a third of the country refuses to acknowledge exists?
The bottom line is we need both approaches. Find ways to deal with the essential waste and maybe stoop to the level of not wasting so much.

Where are the college programs dedicated to the subject?

Recycle once by mixing with other materials, then incinerate it using plasma and capture the byproduct simple gasses for more production.

In Materials Science grad school late in the last century I recall a class centered on metal and glass recycling. IIRC the key takeaways were: feed material control is key (brown glass ruins everything) and if you could make money at it someone probably already is (lead is supposedly the most recycled by %age).

I wonder if there's a plastics-centric version for the ChemE/PetE crowd? That'd be pretty interesting!

PET is the only FDA approved recyclable food-grade plastic.

And I'll post this here (again)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PET_bottle_recycling#Global_statistics
--interestingly India is the top recycler of PET, at 90%

All I know is Sammy suggested I invest in PLASTICS a few weeks back. Therefore...I am against them....it just seems right....more or less...YMMV

Suppose some puts a (clean) net-positive-electricity plasma generator into a semi.
They drive it over to the beaches in India.
They put up a sign "$1 per ton" or whatever.
The homeless go to work. There is no shortage of them.
Those beaches will be clean in a month flat.

Tourists start using them again.
Income starts happening.
Fish start returning.

National/community pride and all that begins to happen.
The government decides it's worth keeping them around or building their own.
Everybody wins.

It's a more expensive solution, but at least the materials are not recyclable.

BTW, did you know that wax --as in waxed cardboard carton-- is a plastic?

Now what?

Is the drink box thingy still more green? Paper and plastic fused together...

Hey Pavulon, did you learn anything today?

Ah but for the facts:

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/06/90-of-plastic-polluting-our-oceans-comes-from-just-10-rivers/
Why is it what when some people throw something away, they think it goes into the ether, never to be seen again?
Doesn't matter where the fk the beach is. That crap washes up on beaches everywhere.

Your posts are the discarded plastic bottles of PPOT. It was sooo much better when you stayed in the BARF recycler. Seriously.
