All bottled water gone and all gas stations with lines and people jockeying for position. No friction though - everyone cool. Couple of the pumps had the yellow bags on them - meaning no more fuel from that pump.

I topped up the truck with regular and then got another 12 gallons in non-ethanol in several fuel cans for my generator, if needed. That should last me a couple days easily, which is probably all I would need if our power went out.

We have our own utilities company here and they are very responsive.

I told Mom not to worry - if it looks bad enough, I would come get her and bring her over to my place for the duration.

Should know a lot more by Friday.

Best of luck to all......and please keep us posted as necessary.

Sounds like you have a plan in place. Do not stay put if CAt 3 or better get out of the way.

I already have my evacuation plan in place, a trip to Key West is in order, I just found out you can rent an Electric Mini Moke down there so I need an excuse to head down. :D

If I have to leave I will just work on destroying my liver while my house does the same.

My BIL is a cop in DelRay, and lives in Boynton Beach (near west pam beach)....overtime galore, while his house goes unprotected.

Baz, coming right at you they say. Batten the hatches.

Meh, ignore the guy that suggested that. He has a flaming case of TDS and just wants Mar a Lago destroyed.

I went to be last night with a cone of doom extending from Miami to Jacksonville, in other words they have no idea where this is going.

I woke this morning to see projected landfall 30 miles north of me. Then I realized they still have no idea where it is going.

Plus this is a very small compact windfield with a very disorganized storm around it....so far...

I am still in a holding pattern until Friday afternoon. I really am not in the mood to shutter up.

Nope. I am talking about the guy that suggested it was heading to Palm Beach, Nota.

Baz 08-29-2019 04:34 AM

Too early to know where it will hit and how hard.

I'm good here and know the drill.

I always hunker down. It's actually the best way to ride 'em out.

Thanks for the posts and well wishes......good luck to all in his path!

Yesterday filled all the cars with gas and finished up with the food/water provisions. This morning decided to fill some gas cans (for generator) as this thing is getting big and serious. Already there were the knuckleheads honking horns amongst the jockeying for a pump. Just amazing. This afternoon we are going to start moving the potted plants on the pool patio to a corner closer to the house. A little at a time. The aluminum shutters are last. Hopefully we won't need to do that. This from a couple of years ago. I hate these things.

Fingers crossed for all there on the east coast of Fl.
It being so far out yet makes for pretty broad possible landfall location at this point in time.

After our very close brush with Michael last year I tend to take these storms more seriously than ever.
My Brother and I just made reservations in central Ala. at our favorite lakeside evacucation spot for the middle of next week. We both live in our airstreams, so packing up and moving is the safest bet for us.
This may seem early for reservations, but much later and all will be booked up.

Dan those are some great looking shutters, sure simplifies getting closed up for the weather. I have other friends in Viera , got to check with them to see what they are planning.

Seeing the utter catastrophic distruction that Michael inflicted on such a wide area last year does reinforce the evacuation choice for me.
But it is different circumstances for each of us.

These long range forecasts are a mixed blessing. Affording the oppertinity to plan well in advance for what may eventuate. For most in Fla.it will be some wind and lots of rain. For an unlucky few it could bring much more.

I'm hoping the best for all in the path of this storm.

Cheers Richard

Cone of doom way too big to tell if I need to do anything.

As of right now I am not doing anything crazy, just watching. if the weather is decent this afternoon, I may start installing the hardware for my shutters on 3 new windows I had installed. The entire back of my house is now impact glass so I do not need to shutter nearly as much as I used to.

I pulled my E30 out of storage to drive around today, forgetting I put it away with less than 1/4 tank of gas. Every station here has lines. I will just put it back away on fumes.

Be safe gang. Remember alcohol sales are typically banned after a storm so make sure you have enough beer to get through this.

Our retirement place is on the West coast in Punta Gorda. Hopefully, it will have lost some strength if it cuts over to the coast. The house is rented out right now, with new tenants coming in next Tuesday, along with the storm. I called our property mgt. people this AM to have someone come out to close up our accordion hurricane shutters and put the patio furniture in the lanai, behind the big shutter. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed, and hope for the best for you guys on the East coast. Stay safe.

I work at the largest hospital in Jax and we've had 3 meetings so far about this thing and have another at 4:00 and 5:30 today. All PTO's have been cancelled and fuel tanks topped off, etc, etc, etc. Our emergency operations center will be set up tomorrow. It will be a long weekend for some of us.....
