But you just mentioned the best of all reasons not to evacuate. Your four-legged family members. Really hard on them to be on the road - although I realize there are some exceptions - so don't everyone pile on.

You said you have a whole house generator so that goes a long way in casting the vote FOR hunkering down.

Now Jim mentioned Cat 5 - that might give reason to re-consider. Possibly.

I have lots of friends up that way. West Melbourne you might get a good ass kicking but no flooding from the ocean, maybe from the rain though.

Let's face it, nobody knows where this thing is going as of today or probably even tomorrow. Remember Irma 2017? Originally forecast to go up the east coast and hit Jax and the Carolinas? It went up the west coast.

Had planned to head back to FL this weekend, but I guess I'll postpone for a week or so! :eek:

We are preparing here even on the west coast, I’m in Punta Gorda, just north of Fort Myers. I haven’t put up the shutters yet, but I’ll probably put a few up today. I have the electric accordion ones for the lanei, but the rest are the couragated ones held on by wingnuts.

I’m debating about just leaving. I was planning on going to Missouri to visit my dad the week of the 9th. But there is nothing to keep me from going tommorow. If nothing else the weather there is suppose to be sunny, and we will surly get rain.

The plane is gassed up and ready to go.

Last night the wife and I were was toying with coming back to Ft. Myers for a couple of days to evacuate from the east coast.

The path right now is to make landfall in Jupiter which puts me 30 miles north or on the North eye wall..... of a Cat 4...

I will not make a final decision as to what I am doing until Saturday afternoon, as of right now we are looking to head to Miami.

I am trying to only go 100 miles, reason being that is less than a tank of gas round trip, this way I do not have to fight for gas. I just want to get well south of the storm, I figure Miami is a good bet.

If this hits land as predicted we will be without power, phone internet for weeks.

The cel phone companies have drones on standby to deploy once the storm passes so we will not be totally cut off from the world.

I am really hoping this forward motion slows sooner so it will make this turn and become a fish storm.

Lived through a few CAT 2's - that is my limit since I live on the water. CAT 3/4 and I'm gone. I know they over-hype the CAT, but even a 3, depending on where you live and the structure of the house, is going to be interesting. At a certain point, it is not the wind, it is the water.

btw plywood sheets if nailed or screwed over the OUTSIDE of a window on the wall will blow off
as the wind will get under the corners vibrate the sheet and pull it off

the way to do it is cut the plywood to fit INSIDE the window opening on the sill outside
then use 2x4's split on the angle of your window sill to hold the plywood in place
with topcon screws going 90 deg to the wind into the sill so they can't pull out

of course metal shutters lag bolted in place is better but not a last minute deal to get

As of 2:00 it is still heading NW at 10 MPH which is good we need it to go real slow and let the system to the north get out of its way so it can turn north.

I hope with this slower forward speed it will make that turn out in the ocean rather than on land.
