My best advice to all of you is that if you get something that appears counterfeit, contact CS, tell them you got a counterfeit item and you’ll get your money back quickly, and that seller will be dealt with quickly. Like others have mentioned, we also order stuff 3-4 times a week and I’ve never had an issue. |

I’m assuming he has a utility patent? A step with a hook on it that attaches to a loop isn’t really new or novel. A swim ladder for a boat that has a loop that hangs over the gunnel is basically the same thing (in the eyes of the patent office). So if he got a utility patent on the apparatus, it’s on thin ice and if he tried to sue someone and it went to court, it would likely be invalidated. Of course it all comes down to his claim set. If the patent is a method patent of hanging a step from part of the the door latch mechanism of an automobile and then using said step to load cargo onto the roof of the automobile, the infringers are not the manufacturers - they are the users. They also should be using the method in a commercial manner (as part of a business) to establish damages. If he got a design patent, this pertains to the stying and form of the design. All they had to do is make theirs look different but they could perform the same function in the exact same manner. Of course, a US patent only applies within the USA. You need to file and be granted a patent in each and every country that you want protection. Also, a patent is merely a license to sue infringers. There aren’t really any patent police out there. So - was he successful getting his patent granted? What type of patent did he get? Care to provide the patent number (this is all part of the public record)?

Daymond John, "Mr. Fubu" and one of Shark Tank's most notorious self-made millionaire hosts, struck a deal and purchased the Moki Door Step outright for $3 million. This historic deal marks one of few in the series 10-year history, and we're proud to be working together with them to bring the final design, the Rightline Gear Moki Door Step, to retail stores across the country.
So did your Son get his $3 mill after all? that's not chicken scratch... So have him put an LED strip on the bottom/top/sides of it New and Improved able to use 24 hours a day. When do I get my 1% for this patentable idea?

My 9 year old son ordered some Pokemon cards on Amazon with his birthday money. These were counterfiet. Most had the holograms but they were different and the font was different on some cards (he had identical 'real Pokemon' cards to compare to. Amazon refunded his money and he still played with them or traded some off at a 2:1 ration (whatever they do).

Some more information on this Amazon fake stuff. Too greedy in increasing their selling base and nearly impossible to police. I bought an Over The Air TV antenna for a trial on Amazon, turned out to be defective and I had to return it. Turns it they (Amazon) don't bother to test returned products (also nearly impossible) and they rely on the seller to back their products. This particular one was a previous return, never tested, apparently bought by the seller and re-sold there. I won't use them again for anything that might be returned and untested. Seller was a female in Russia, but used a California address. Go figure.
How Amazon's quest for more, cheaper products has resulted in a flea market of fakes

Was it considerably cheaper than other comparable items? Even if you aren't a Prime member, only order items that would be Prime if you had it. If the prices is a lot cheaper than comparable items, caveat emptor.

Back on the counterfeit stuff: A local TV station did a bit on Flex Seal Tape. They tried putting the tape on a bucket of water with a hole in the side and it didn't work. They did a follow up bit explaining that the TV station was contacted by Flex Seal and informed that they must have gotten a hold of counterfeit tape (Amazon!). They redid the test with the real Flex Seal Tape and it worked as advertised.

Prime? Ughh.
I used an offered free 30day trial and cancelled after a week. The undisclosed terms, which I had to log-in to even find, was an automatic $14/mo. payment. Good for those who buy often. I don't. It took three times before the cancellation took effect. "Are you really sure?" Sneaky buttons. They wouldn't let go. I see a lot of new Prime delivery vehicles around here this year. The company finances took a momentary dip with all the infrastructure investment. Now they are moving into grocery delivery. Expect them to start delivering all sorts of things and pushing into FedEx/UPS?USPS/GrubHub/etc territory. |

Like many others here I suspect, I initially signed up for the Prime Video content (namely Top Gear/Grand Tour), with the shipping as simply a side-benefit. Now that TG/GT has gone away, the justification for a Prime membership is quickly ebbing. Though, it is still one of the few decent sources for 4k/HDR content, so I haven't pulled the plug just yet.

Ok, this past week my wife and I were in a bind and needed a part asap. Monday the starter decided to take a sabbatical in my wife's Jeep. It's her DD. I only use OEM new parts like this as it's a very difficult job - I've done it once before.
It was in the evening, I needed the part and needed it quickly. So online - Amazon was the only source to guarantee 2 day shipping. 1st seller with lowest price appeared legit until Google research revealed maybe not a Mopar authorized seller. Next group proved legit, again after research googling. As someone said above reviews may sometimes be the seller -or- the product. So I pulled the trigger and it arrived on time in a Mopar box with appropriate paper work. If I had more time I would have sourced one locally.
