Counterfeit stuff on Amazon

Just went to buy some Loctite 648 on Amazon from an Amazon's Choice supplier. Reading the reviews, first one purchaser says he got a counterfeit product with mispellings on the label.

Amazing that a $15 bottle of Loctite would be counterfeited.

Anyone buy anything not kosher on Amazon?

In a related experience, it's taken over a month for the Loctite 518 to MAYBE arrive on Wednesday. Turns out it's an Indian seller so I am pretty sure it will be counterfeit. Again, an Amazon Choice supplier.

The supplier is not Choice, the product is.

It's my understanding that a product gets labeled "Choice" due to a mix of good reviews and pricing. I'm sure a bit more goes into it but those are the basics.

It naturally lends itself to being abused.

Last vendor of a Choice product I bought offered to pay me $50.00 to retract an honest review of their product.

I told em to **** off and amended my review to include they'd asked that.

I've been pretty happy with Amazon purchases. If I've been counterfeited, I can't tell......

Amazon return policy is often easier than the local B&M.

"Most non Chinese brand names shipped from China are counterfeit".

When I first read this statement I was sceptical but it's actually true.
India is not as bad as China but they are fast catching up. High end speaker cables seem to be the latest thing.

Have you seen the latest fake Rolex watches? (All Chinese made)

God only knows why anybody would wear something like this. I don't care how good it looks it's fake so why B.S. yourself?

Has anybody bought walk-up from McMaster-Carr 's distribution centers? They are less than an hour away NE of Akron. Suppose I could call them. One person I chatted with said it's more a B2B type operation.

I have a real, yet simple SS Rolex and an astronaut-ish fake Breitling.

On the rare occasion I wear a button down shirt, it's the Rolex. Classy yet understated. Frankly, few peeps know what it is so I wear it for me, I guess. Wore the Breitling once. Impulse buy in Baku from a street vendor.

SanDisk MicroSD cards and Panasonic Eneloops Pro batteries among several other items over the years (all via Amazon-fulfillment).
It's an epidemic, and I'd imagine that Amazon is the #1 or #2 player (facilitator) in the trafficking of counterfeit goods in the US.

I bought a Toshiba laptop battery on Amazon that lasted a few months and is now crap. Really my only bad experience on Amazon. I bought an H&S Mini Maxx Race tuner for my F250 on EBay and it turned out to be a total fake, after EBay did nothing I submitted a protest through Amex and got my money back.

Lots of fake stuff (or just Chinese crap) out there. I almost exclusively limit my Amazon purchases to "Prime" items only and even them I'm picky. Amazon can't police every item that can be purchased through their website. (Hell, they can't even police the reviews).

Apparently a ton of auto parts on Amazon are counterfeit, even small items.
I read a post on a BMW site a couple months ago about fake spark plugs.
Someone bought a bunch of different Bosch, NKG, etc. and tested them. A shocking (pun intended) percentage of them were fake. They had detailed pictures of the construction differences, and they also tested the materials. The fake Bosch coppers, for instance, had no copper.
Anyways, my takeaway was to never buy auto parts on Amazon (and I'm a huge Amazon buyer).

2 years ago I bought that same 648, from Amazon, for $15, and it was not a fake. So, you can trust me over some anonymous dude.

Also, I can get 518 delivered tomorrow, from Amazon. What did you do wrong?

Many of you will remember my post about my sons invention, Moki Doorstep, his Kickstarter campaign and appearance on Shark Tank with the biggest deal ever. Counterfeits on Amazon have killed him and potential of business and revenue. Amazon appears to not care and tens of thousands of dollars have been spent fighting the knockoffs. Patents do not matter to these people. If you want some perspective, watch "Invalidated" and don't buy counterfeit crap!

Maybe we should reconsider the true cost of not shopping local when we can?

I always shop local if I can even if it's more expensive. If the product isn't available locally then I'll look online.

Much of the problem is that we don't know that we're ordering counterfeit stuff, and some of the fakes are good enough that the average person will never detect them.

One story I heard is the inventor of the pool noodle toy, saw the onslaught of fakes, so he just made his own off brand knockoffs of his own product, and made it super cheap. He flooded the market, made a little tiny profit on a lot of product, and starved out the counterfeiters. Then he had a push to label is real product the original and made move on that as well. It may all be a BS story, but it sounds logical.
