I have a neighbor exactly like this.

The real bottom line, some of the folks online love to play troll, others are just really stupid.

When simple facts like the earth is not flat, the Nazi holocaust was real, and the moon landings really did happen, are argued about it has to be a troll just arguing to get a rise out of someone for whatever reason that drives trolls. Some will argue that the sun actually revolves the earth.

It is pointless to even respond to the trolls and feed them.

Please push that into PARF.

Real history should be discussed in OT and not talked about only in special areas.

Gotta dissagree.
PARF is not made for trolling. It is made for some topics that very often attract trolls.

There is a difference.
There are some topics, that even without trolls, should go to PARF.

I do miss being able to more open in OT. My problem I see is that often rather than a objective line there is a subjective line drawn.

I often will start threads in PARF just to get a more honest intellectual spread of responses.

Of course any religion infused topic, PARF.
Any simple politics issues, PARF.

What about a discussion Egyptian history. It is all 2,000+ years in the past, so passions are not real high. It is pretty much impossible to discuss Egyptian history without getting into the many religions, and their many gods. Does that push it into PARF?

The moderators quickly get to the point of defining pornography. We all know what it is, but it almost impossible to define.

I do not envy the job of moderators. It is endless work, and all they ever get out of it is being called a poopy-head.

For the first time in 19 years on this Board I received a PM LETTER OF WARNING from the Pelican. In my considered opinion the new Moderator and I have always been at odds with each other, as evidenced by his pejoratively DISMISSIVE comments about me over the years. That is fact.

This is the message that was sent:
***************
As the new kid on the block, I find that you have constantly pushed the issues regarding forum posting content. I defer to higher ups and am not willing to take any drastic actions unless there are no other choices.

You have choices about what you post and where. I have to tell you that I have always scrutinized that content many times wondering what the agenda is.

To be clear, my position is to move content involving politics (which often are included in discussion of economics) and religion to where it belongs.

In order to not have to take actions, I ask you kindly to consider what I am saying here.

There is no reply necessary. Thank you for reading.

I stopped fking around on this Board 12 years ago. I write serious stuff that is deeply considered and is presented in a rational and cognitive manner. I write from a very unique and uncommon perspective that is reflective of my thinking and myself. Believe me I have shown a lot of patience and restraint on this Board over the years. When I started 12 years ago I said, "I would have to suffer a lot of slings and arrows and that going it alone would be nothing new to me." So either you find value in what I say or you do not. It is as simple as that.

Some times things are posted in the wrong Forum by mistake especially when using a Smart Phone. Then there are the iffy items that could go either way. Mine own delineation is that it maybe about an issue where politics or religion is a connotation to the subject and is not the subject itself per say. I do not espouse any partisan political nor specific religious pov. Yet the larger subject maybe about having faith and spirituality as part of the human psyche which is not overtly religious. Politics have an effect on society and economics, where I describe the mechanics and or process of how that interplays and effects the larger society both economically and psychologically. It is mostly a factual laying out of the situation and it's ramifications and consequences.

I especially do NOT LIKE the DIATRIBES on the PARF. they are not serious discussions but pathological and ignorant emotional rantings that go no where except to further divisiveness and discord. The audience over there is closed ended which is like inbreeding where the resulting discussions become ever more moronic and viperous. There is no breath of fresh air over there that an open ended system would bring. Guests can only read and not post.

Believe me I delineate everything.. I weigh everything out and shade it and am very careful and deliberate in what I do and say. That is why I have survived without any real comment from the mgt on this Board for 19 years.

I was just about to lose faith. Then, as luck would have it, he posted just before you did, right up there above your post.

Exactly. I genuinely had no idea why my post was sent to PARF. The only way to not repeat the offense is to know what was found to be offensive.

I have to give props to Zeke: he took time to explain some things to me. Although I don't totally agree with his assessment, I respect his right to make the call and have even greater appreciation for him reaching out to dialog with me.

When ya can't badmouth FRED here anymore....what's the point?

I do not believe it's the "topic" per se... there have been many dual threads (one here, another in PARF) about some topics over time...seemed to work. When civility wanes....then take action....jmho.

What's off limits now... Spoons, FRED, and CA?

Keep on truckin' Zeke

+1.... Enjoyed the forum more when all topics popped up and were discussed and argued by the majority.

People would be responsible for policing themselves? I'm not sure you understands what those words mean. There are PARF posters with long-term issues on certain subjects or with certain people who are capable of filling pages and pages with tripe and have the capacity to sink any group topic of conversation, no matter how benign it started out. The ignore lists would be huge and switching on/off constantly.

For those casually browsing PPOT for a few minutes of miscellaneous light-hearted entertainment it would quickly ruin almost anyone's day. And then they leave for good. Many erudites have already left for different pastures for one reason or another and the population has shrunk already. But then again I could be wrong about seeing the cause vs effect or maybe they are not related at all.

The mods here have great deal of tolerance compared to some internet discussion groups (i.e. Reddit/Facebook/etc) but a good public whipping is necessary once in a while to maintain social order. It is the nature of the beast.

No one wants to quash the first amendment. The board was set up from the beginning with no discussions of sexuality, and porno. There are likely a few million web sites that cater to that. I sure don't want to wade through that garbage on this site.

I do NOT want the PARF subjects in OT. I can read most any thread in OT, and find something of interest. I just skip the threads on cigars since I think all cigars are stinky horrible things and I have no interest in them except to stay as far away as possible. If you like em, fine. Smoke them away from me.

Threads on whiskey or bourbon or wine only have a passing interest, as I only drink beer.

I have no problems whatsoever with threads discussing any subject. But I sure don't want thread after thread about any of the 4,200 different religions in OT. Yea, that is the real estimate, 4,200. And yep, only yours is right. Lets keep that in PARF.

I miss the threads from Vash. He always had some winners of the interesting subjects.

I agree as well. It seems to me that many in OT are perfectly happy to dig into politics and religion here until/unless someone disagrees with them or has a better argument...the they either call for the thread to be sent to PARF or attempt to dox anyone impertinent enough to disagree wit their "correct: thinking on the matter. The "usual culprits" generally do not start political or religious threads in OT. They confine them to PARF. They simply do not allow the opposite political point of view to go unchallenged in OT (or personal attack on themselves).

There are few places these days where relatively free speech is allowed. PARF is one of them. Many of us appreciate that and are willing to tolerate the goofballs and poorly considered remarks that come with that freedom. Including the ones that post in PARF all the time, try to stir up animosity (even moreso than usual) and then come to OT to complain about those bad people that post in PARF.

I do not have a problem with a thread being moved to PARF if even remotely political or addressing religion. What I do not like are nonpolitical and nonreligious threads moved there because they have blown up and there is some sort of juvenile poop throwing. Degenerating threads birthed in OT should stay in OT. Is history in general political? Perhaps not, but almost every thread like that almost always ends up with ill-conceived posts that push it that way. Especially one that discusses war or genocide. As long as a arbiter decides based on content vice position...it seems fair to me. The only other solution is go back to a single forum and expect folks with thin skins to be adult enough not to click on threads that might hurt their feelings.

I think the way it is set up now to be inferior as it appears to me that the vast wealth of PARF information and discussion/analysis is pretty much restricted/isolated from the rest of the internet behind a sign in to view setting. That is a pity and deprives the world of some very astute observations (as well as some stupid name-calling and absolutely inane views. To me, in a free country, people should be able to sort those out themselves vice censorship...but I recognize the owner of the site can impose their will. The rules here are among the best available (although not perfect as just noted)...and that is why I continue to post/read...and bring my business here.

Nothing stops people from policing themselves right now. 10 or so users can’t manage to do that. As evidence, those same users typically have an extraordinary number of posts associated with their user name.
The best imaginary solution is a quarterly, in-person meeting where they all pulverize each other in a Thunderdome. After that, regular banning. Lastly PARF. I’m thankful for PARF because I have to deal with too many hyper-opinionated iceholes each day already.

It seems that those with an extraordinary low number of posts associated with their user name have nothing of value to post and just whine about those that do.

Perhaps they should meet in that Thunderdome setting, stare at each other, exchange recipes and photos of their significant others and whine about those concerned with poltical issues that affect the nation and share those in PARF. Just like the folks did when this country was founded and freedom of speech and interest/knowledge of political issues were a catalyst that changed the world. A lot of folks pobably were sick and tired of that Thomas Paine fellow that constantly talked about and wrote about tyranny...and Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay who wrote the 85 Federalsit essays. Who gets to decide what is important (of value). Certainly the ignorant or those that benefitted from the current system would have restrained such work if it had been up to them.

See how easy it is to stereotype adn throw stones? Why must folks in this forum always resort to that...and then wonder why they get a negative response?
