Elissa's Rehab Experience

We been in Durham N.C. for 40 days while Elissa attends Duke Cardiopulmonary Rehab. The rehab is 2.5 hours a day walking miles on a indoor oval track while on bottled oxygen pushing a walker, Then weight training and exercise machines. Elissa is the youngest of her class with around 25 people in it. She said her Guy Friend in the class is a 75 year old gentleman who has black lung from working in a coal mine. After her workout we all attend several hours of classes on all the issues related to transplant.( rejection, medications, sanitation, wound care, daily living habits.....)
The Duke approach is totally different than what we saw in Dallas or Houston. Duke has everything listed for her and planned out. No other transplant center makes a potential patient go through 24 days of rehab and classes prior to being listed. Elissa will graduate next week and will have to continue rehab till transplant and then for life.
We stayed in a hotel for the first 3 weeks until we found an apartment and signed a 6 month lease. My wife is trying to make it a home for us much as possible as we will most likely be here for up to a year.
Post transplant Elissa will most likely be in the hospital for 10-21 days and then discharged with daily lab test and doctor visits for the first month then every other day lab work. After several months she will go to weekly visits then monthly visits. This process of monitoring her labs and anti-rejection drugs will eventually go to monthly lab visits.
We are still weeks away from being listed for transplant.
You can follow her on Facebook....Just Breath For Elissa

Cards and notes are always welcome

Thank you for your concern. I will be sure to tell MrsWD that people care.
We found a Chemex glass coffee maker, a grinder, and some filters in our bug out box. I used the grinder to grind black pepper this summer and I assumed it was ruined for coffee. I figured we would be smashing coffee beans with a hammer. But we tried it and it works great! The coffee is smooth and tasty. I'm used to the stronger coffee the Saeco made.

there is a version of those (translucent with a valve in the bottom - you let it sit on the counter for xx minutes, then put it on a mug, which opens the valve

it is my 3rd backup for coffee (I like a defense in depth, with a ready reserve)

I also have the fold up version for backpacking...

My trusty Jura E8 went DOWN. Nasty noise...Error code 8.

Something with the brew group

I went for the backup this morning. Mrs Beard said it took too long...

I'm sorry for your loss Red. I hope you recover soon.

Percolated coffee really smells great in the morning and the first cup can be good, but it goes downhill fast if it sits. If you make 6 cups you need six people sitting around expecting coffee right now.

The main drive one of the flanges is broken. So, yep, JB weld!

It was in three pieces!

The Camera seems to highlight the JB Weld. I also smeared a bunch on the side and back to add some strength

This is the "main Brew Group" before reassembly. Some lube required

well said!!

my bet is the whole she-bang is carefully engineered to collapse right after the warranty expires, and that fixing one part will simply cause another part to fail next

It was a refurbished machine to begin with and I've had it for at least 9 years. I did notice that it was missing an unimportant screw when I took it apart.

The real problem was the main group had become clogged. According to many, these need to be taken apart and cleaned about every two-three years. I bought the first one in 2007. It has about 30,000 shots. And I think it went in for service once.

I don't know it that was serious or not.

I usually notice that unimportant screws are left after I put it back together.
