I do. And getting a rebate for any car costing more than $30K is a flat waste of taxpayers money. Let alone something costing $100k or $200K. I don't like subsidies for the rich- no matter how liberal or conservative you are.

I agree. There should have been a cap. Someone buying a 100k vehicle doesn't need a tax credit.

Give me 2 million a year in tax breaks and I will give you 2000 jobs that will generate 5 million a year in taxes.

Why do you need $2 million a year in tax breaks? You're a multi-billion dollar company. Where is that $2 million going? In your pocket where it just goes into complex financial instruments or are you giving all of your workers a $2/hour raise so that $2 million can be spent in the local community?

Multi-billion companies that don't pay federal income taxes don't need tax breaks to pay their C-suite more.

Are you not going to create those jobs if you don't get the $2 million a year?

Yup.

It's not as if income phaseouts are a novelty. Even the CTC goes away at $200K.

I think a company with a history of technical excellence and innovation should be ashamed to apply the term “turbo” to an electric car.
It seems like a misguided marketing ploy to apply an ICE term to an EV.
I know it’s a popular marketing term used to sell everything from gym shoes to energy drinks and its popular largely because of the success of real Porsche turbos. But Porsche isn’t selling sneakers or tax software. They should have more respect for people who know where the term comes from.

The term has evolved and indicates speed/improved/superior.

I agree - what a crock of shiit on their part. Makes me want to point and laugh.

That said, I have a 10.4 Kwp solar panel array on the roof of my home. Electric cars represent an evolution to me. I doubt I will ever NOT own an ICE vehicle, but I can also see myself owning an electric one too. The Taycan just makes that evolution easier to digest because it is so damn fast and a true driver's car. The Tesla never appeared or felt that way to me.
Reminds me of a song from a few years ago. Kissed a girl and liked it.

Many vacuum cleaners, and my old computer have a turbo button. In the case of the electric cars, yea it is stupid, but not unprecedented in marketing. Almost all manufacturers use S or even SS as the magic designation for the top of the line model. Since 1976 Porsche Turbo was the ultimate until the Turbo S.

Just the marketing department silliness.

Looks awesome, way out of my price range, not sure how they blew the range target that badly, and it’s ridiculous to call an electric car a turbo.

As for the subsidies debate, putting aside Shawn’s hatred of big companies and the C-suite I think one point has been missed. Tax breaks to companies that add jobs aren’t because they need the money to do so, it’s to guarantee that the jobs (and tax base) stay in your community. Jobs are a economic element and cities compete for them, it’s simple supply and demand. He who offers the best package gets the jobs. Compete or die. Sincerely somebody who has watched aerospace leave the “air capital of the world” for over a decade for other states and cities that have offered a substantially better deal to our local companies.

Not unprecedented at all, but still silly. I had a brand X 286 computer with a "turbo" button on it. I think it made the fan run faster.

I have a turbo button on my vacuum cleaner, regular mixer, immersion mixer, and blender.

Let's focus on real world results. The C-suite vs common man debate is another topic altogether.

Pretty sure the impact of the tax handout on EVs like the Model S and Taycan is close to 0 as far as increasing demand goes.

I've lived in NYC and while the bagels are good, Montreal has the best bagels in the world. By far. Found this place that makes Montreal style bagels drove 2 hours up but they were sold out. What they did have more than made up for no bagels in the literally 400 sqft building that is the entire restaurant. Fantastic day driving around Maine. Wish I had brought a real camera.
