Does anyone have a lighter they like?

I've had a few of these things. A Bernz, this highly rated fancy POS, and a whole lot of the 99 cent throwaways. They all suck. Won't light, won't stay lit, etc. I'm down to buying 6 packs of the cheap ones because they work reliably a few times before crapping out and I've always got another one to break out.
I use them for lighting my Vermont stove in the house and bonfires outdoors. A propane torch works OK outdoors, but I don't really want one sitting around in my living room.

Matches only work ONCE and never more than that. 6 times would be magical. They are pretty cheap however.

They are not real high tech or new.

The problem with kitchen matches, even the long fireplace matches, is the draft through the stove blows them out. I can go through a lot more than 6 of them trying to start a fire in the stove. I need a sustained flame. Outdoors in the wind - are you kidding?

As a previous smoker, always used a bic and still use them for whenever I need a light

If you need something with a long extension, can’t help you. They all suck afaik

For lighting stoves and BBQs I have use a Calico Chef's lighter for 20 years or so. They are pretty reliable and last for a year or two.

Years ago i bought a big pack of adjustable cigarette lighters from a food service place. $10 for 40 lighters or something like that. With a minor tweak they are very useful (for anything but smoking).

Adjust the flame to high. Remove the metal guard at the top. Slide the flame adjuster up off the valve and put it back on at the low position. Bend metal guard back in to shape and reinstall. Now your flame is adjustable from "high" to "crack pipe" level.

Zippo made/makes a line of butane lighters in addition to their wet-fuel-n-wick style they are known for. Colibri is also a big name in nice fancy lighters (and pens), and of course Dunhill, etc. but I think the Zippo butanes beat them all. Solid, stylish, built like a tank, and has Zippo's lifetime warranty.

But I carry and use cheap Bic disposables - full size, not the minis or slim ones.

For cigars I like the cheap ronson jetlite, its as good as the fancypants butanes. Its not a stick lighter though, and for a stove you probably want a stick lighter. I'm with you, they all suck.

Torches are finicky and simply dont last so I have given up with the fancy stuff
