FWIW, I've worked on more than my fair share and two things stood out. The axles / housings looked over built and the frames were fully boxed. Very heavy duty for the wheel base / size. But that was about it.

Love hate relationship for the 3 we owned. Thankfully we always bought used and cut depreciation loss in half. If they made a new one that looked like the older version my wife would be there ready. Late models look like crap.

I see so many of them around here and wonder if the owners do nay research at all prior to buying and, if they do, what makes them pull the trigger.

I have a good friend that worked for years at a LR dealership and she would tell you that customers bought them because they could afford them and were not concerned about reliability. New cars are reliable, right?

When new, The interiors are beautiful and the driving position is superb. Here in SoCal they are typically driven by women and dumped after a few years. The are a status symbol. She said the aesthetic drove the buying decision and rarely are the buyers well informed.

I loved my ‘94 Classic.

beg to differ, have a '16 Range Rover sport diesel that just clicked over 60K. With the exception of the crappy entertainment interface that I resolved with an aftermarket solution, the truck has been great

They sell the image of prestige, glamour, envy of others, athleticism and wealth and their marketing arm is very successful selling that illusion. Top Gear, the old one, couldn’t say enough about Range and Land Rovers as well as all things British. Of course they were also employed by the BBC.

Whenever I see people driving them, the brain says, another uniformed sucker took the bait and they must feel so proud.

We had a mid 90s RR that had a "random lock feature" where the car would randomly lock the doors. My father once got locked out of the car after dropping a family member off at the airport. He got out of the car, closed the door while the car was idling at the curb, got the bags out of the trunk and when he closed the trunk the doors all locked. I think it randomly unlocked 20 minutes later. We had numerous other electrical problems.

Just last March, my brother brought his wife's gas guzzling LR3, I think, for service and the dealer gave him a new one to try out knowing that his lease was expiring. I got a ride and it seemed a little gutless. When we parked, I tried to get out of the car, but the door was locked. He accidentally unlocked and locked the door, while I was pulling on the door handle. We got completely out of sync where I would try to open the door while was locking it, I was being impatient. In any case, after 3 rounds of shenanigans, we had broken the door handle. I am not sure how that car would survive with kids if the door is that delicate.

I would never get one.

"Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC" Owned by Tata motors, India.

It can be difficult keeping up with who owns what.

A car with quirky British build quality, produced by cheapo, all-about-appearances Punjabis. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes, that's what I meant.
Most of the the popular power tool companies are owned by a single company based in Hong Kong.
Modern world, global economy... International companies are always looking for a bargain and money is cheap right now.

I've always loved Jags... "Grace and pace!" The late 80s to early 90s were the golden years IMO.

Jaguar Land Rover are embarking on an electric car fiasco as we speak. Given the progress to date it won't end well.

My guess is they sell the business or cancel the e-car program.
