Police reducing the number of arrests - I hope you are already ready

Hope you are ready.

Locally (and notionally) they are turning "non-violent" criminals out of jail. And that includes burglary if there are no weapons present.

Now the Police are being directed to "not arrest" certain types of criminals. In some places, they are not ticketing cars, unless they are blocking fire hydrants or intersections.

Lots of businesses are closed. Perfect targets for burglary.

Quote:
Philadelphia is one of a growing list of cities where police are pulling back on arrests for low-level crimes, like burglaries and drug offenses. Suspects are being released with a warrant ordering them to return for processing once the crisis is over. The city’s normally combative police union quickly endorsed the policy, citing the need to keep officers healthy.

In Fort Worth, officers were directed to issue tickets for some misdemeanors that aren’t punishable with jail time, and to seek a supervisor’s approval before making an arrest on such crimes.

“It’s not that they’re going unpunished,” said Sgt. Manny Ramirez, the president of the Fort Worth Police Officers Association. “It’s just that if you have the opportunity to write a citation in lieu of making the arrest that’s what they’re asking you to do at this point.”

Here in California they were closing the gun stores as "non essential" but leaving the marijuana dispensaries open as "essential".

Well, that didn't last long. I went yesterday to Turner's Outdoorsman (local gun store) for some Hoppes #9 but didn't have to wait to go in (social distancing) since I wasn't there to purchase a firearm.

Garage broken into yesterday morning 5:30 am. Neighbor heard some noise and poked his head out to see and they drove off in a hurry — with my pressure washer which was near the big door. This is my rental garage across the alley, not my car garage.

I since have beefed up locks and turned off automatic openers. My 9 is now close by at all times.

Heck, it's not even a crime to steal anything worth less than $950 around here.

Man, I can't believe that, although I guess it's been in effect for some time. I won't have any patience with anybody trying to steal from me. I've got a driveway alarm, security lights, and weapons stashed around the house.

A neighbor had a break in a couple of months ago. Gun was drawn on him when he interrupted the guys. They left empty handed .

They left their cell phone, which they were using as a flashlight to see. That didn't help the cops any since they won't investigate it since nothing was stolen.

How can this be right?

Home burglaries shouldn't be much of an issue though, since everyone's there. I have a crossbow ready... aka "please stay still while I reload" ;-)

On a positive note, I rolled past the local boys from 2 different jurisdictions sitting in the local eatery's empty lot this morning .
I was full on the boost pipe before I even noticed them . They did not even turn their heads . Ill probably get a good talking to this week.

They're probably already well aware.

We have had a huge uptick in daylight burglaries. Yes, even when folks are home. Even had my anti-gun neighbor discuss the potential for learning to use a firearm. I kinda felt bad about her feeling that way.

This confuses me (as does many things) They say they are letting them out to prevent the spread of CV but wouldn't letting them out add to the spread? If they are not out and walking around in society then that is less people to spread the virus.

I was talking to a neighbor who is a local city cop.
Most cops don't want anything to do with people right now and are avoiding contact as much as possible.
Unofficial strategy is to be as conspicuous as possible in hopes that will discourage shenanigans.

80 mph on the freeway probably won't get you pulled over until you are weaving like a dork.
90- mph .. maybe.
BUT ... there are always a few gung-ho's who are business as usual, luck of the draw.
