sure looks like it, if so be mindful that it has a tap root, don't pull it out quickly.

I can beat that. I'll even send a harvest of fall leaves from 60-80' trees.

There are Oaks around here, none immediately around my house. I've never been able to get one to sprout. Squirrels dig them up. A squirrel likely put this one here.

Maybe try starting it in a container with a metal cage around it

To plant an oak is a demonstration of faith in the future...

Looks like an oak. Dig it keeping lots of soil on the root ball. Plant in full sun and keep watered. Protect from weather with short collar around it.

My parents tried for years to get a pecan tree to grow in one spot in their yard. They planted many pecans for a few years, and got nothing. They bought a tree that was 6 feet tall, and it died. Then one year they noticed a pecan tree growing from a pecan a squirrel had buried about 18 inches from where they wanted it. Close enough!

It is a full tree now producing pecans. Dad's theory was that it had to have squirrel spit on it to grow.

there wont be a root ball yet. i yank those things out weekly. super satisfying. they come out with a pop. why? there will be an acorn at the bottom. it's split opened and that tiny tree is coming out of it. i imagine a coconut has the same game plan.

i have never considered replanting the things. i just fling them into the trash can.

my local squirrel population is very industrious.

That's what I do with Maples, by the hundreds.

I want tree diversity, way too many Maples around here. The mature ones do seem to be dying though. I've planted a few Locusts and a couple Tupil Poplars. An Oak would be nice. But I certainly won't be around to see it get big.

That's a Swamp White Oak. They grow faster than one might expect and are beautiful. Just needs some well drained soil (despite their name) and lots of sun.

There is an App for your phone called Picturethis
Take a picture of tree, bush, flower etc. and it will tell you what it is.
It's Free

I tried it. Send a picture of a bush and it told me it was a redhead.

Picturethis tells me it's a Northern Red Oak - AKA - American red oak, Champion oak, Red oak.
