That Airstream is ultra cool. I need to check and see if I saved any of my old 8 tracks. If so, you're welcome to them.

^^ Thanks for the kind words Madcorgi, nice seeing you back with us.
The combination is quite the conversation starter where ever I stop. Airstream has done some interesting special orders with their motorhomes. They built some coaches for NASA used to shuttle the astronauts out to the launch pads. ![]() They also built funeral coaches. ![]() Last time I was on Kauai I saw one being used as a shaved ice truck. This one is an Argosy. ![]() They do turn up in interesting places. Denis some of the common mechanical issues are play in the steering, inadequate engine cooling, and electrical issues. The wiring is like spaghetti under the dash. The plumbing often needs attention too. All of these issues are worked thru in detail on the forum I linked you to. Close Fred.
They are 225 / 70. 19.5 ![]() Fronts. ![]() Rears are the same size with duelies on the drive axel and single on the tag axel. Good thing with this size tire/ wheel is that I can change them myself with just the tools that I have aboard. Guys seem to have a hard time finding replacements for these alcoas Some of the older smaller coaches had steel wheels and hub caps. Not sure what size. Those same rigs came with Chevy 350 engines. Speeder, you know, the one thing I am not sure of is if you want the mirror finish or not?
I would suggest taking it in sections, regardless of the Airstream chosen. Lil' bit of paint remover, some 1000 then 2000 wet sanding paper, then polish. Thoughts. ![]() Thank you for the fish fry invitation. Just trying to help. It would be nice to have friends. ![]()

Haha, playing the provocative rascal there Bob, funny
I keep checking back here for updates on the 280. Denis how's it going, have you had the chance to get started with the revival of your coach? Is the engine running? Feel free to PM me if I can be of help in your efforts. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 06-07-2020 at 05:41 AM.. |

Thanks for bumping. I have watched several videos of the 280 and your larger model.

I would recommend 1000 Trizact 6" discs. Then 1500, I think you have to use Norton here or 3M purple with an interface pad) and then 3000 Trizact for a soft glow that will polish up to a mirror.

Denis wants nothing to do with polishing. My post should have been in green.

Look at the upside. Now I know about these pads.
![]() They even have 8000 grit discs. More like foam pads. (Maybe for the Hubble mirrors?)

VW is teasing....
Looks like the inside can be re-configured from 6pass to empty truck haulin' to sleepers. http://newsroom.vw.com/vehicles/future-cars/official-the-vw-bus-is-back-and-its-electric/ The I.D. Buzz is the second EV concept that VW has revealed for production, along with the original I.D. concept slated to enter production around 2019 as a 2020 model, ![]() The downside is there are 2 pedals, no dash controls except a single big brother screen, and even the steering wheel isn't round anymore. Like, where does the rolling tray even go, man? I would guess that the drive train is also inaccessible without a factory lock code. Ass gas or cash for the tow truck driver 'cause it'll be a long haul from mojave.

I use 1000 and 3000 and 5000 on a regular basis with 1500 and 2000 paper by hand in between. I'm going to try the 8000 soon.

Tomorrow I do some engine maintenance, (valve adjust and clean air filter), plus give it a good wash before sending it to the glass shop for a new driver’s side windshield and seal. Some kids threw rocks at it and broke the windshield in its parking place. It’s kind of amazing that no one did worse to it, it’s in a driveway a few feet from a public trail in Stillwater, a very busy tourist town on the MN./WI. border. The other damage occurred in its parking place but it was Mother Nature. A tree branch fell on the rear corner and put a couple good dents in it but I think they can be coaxed out by a really skilled PDR wizard. The price I paid reflects a complete factory repair on that section so if I’m right about the PDR, I’ll be way ahead. ![]() Engine actually runs great, put a new starting battery in and it fires right up. More pictures to follow soon.
