I found a local gun shop that has some Blazer brass in stock.. $21/box. Yeah, they know there's a shortage. Problem is, I might have to pay it.

I kind of feel sorry for the brick and mortar gun stores. They have to keep the lights on and pay bills, even when they have little to no product in stock and don't know when more is coming or what it will cost. Around here the gun stores with indoor ranges limit ammo sales to 1-5 boxes per person and sometimes only if you're shooting that ammo at their range. Scottsdale Gun Club probably has 30 machine guns for rentals, but they took them all off the wall because they just can't supply the ammo to feed those guns right now. Best way to get ammo now is from private folks who have huge stashes to liquidate, are getting out of certain calibers or, as in my case a few weeks ago, a widow who's trying to cash in on her late husband's stockpile of 100k rounds. At least there's no sales tax or shipping with those deals.

Never in the right place at the right time. I was talking to a local gun shop. The guy says "three weeks ago we had shelves full of 9mm ammo, $9.99 per box. Three weeks ago I was still researching which 9mm I wanted to buy. Maybe I should have bought ammo first and the gun later.

Here in CA, you have to have a gun registered to you first before you can buy ammo. Not sure if it’s the same way anywhere else.

I appreciate the VERY generous offer. Let me see what the next week brings. A local store I talked to today said they got a shipment in but they aren't sure what is in this shipment. They said they should know by Friday. My new 9 isn't here yet and won't be until Friday or Monday.

I can buy whatever ammo I want without having the gun. Many of the shops I've talked to have gone to a one or two box max WITH the purchase of a gun. One store owner said he's only selling ammo with a gun purchase or to customers that have purchased a weapon from him. Looking around at how short the supply is for ammo, I can understand why he's doing what he's doing.

Subscribe to the regular daily gun deals email alerts and you'll find some deals on bulk stuff - AIM Surplus, Wikiarms, gundeals newsletter, SGAmmo, Natchez. Armslist will always have private sellers with plenty of ammo to sell. They will charge current prices, but they have it in stock and there's no shipping or sales tax. It's basically Craigslist for guns and accessories.

I'm going to subscribe to Natchez. That's where my friend found his bulk rounds so cheap.

Are you kidding? I don't buy in quantities of less than 1000 for range ammo. Get every round you can. There's no downside and no expiration date.

I don't want to cut into his stash. He's helping me out and I don't want to take advantage of his generosity. I figure some of the local stores will get some more in soon enough. I was just on Natchez and they have the blazer 1000ct in stock for 299 so I'm gonna wait them out. I know they'll do better since my friend bought at $180 per 1000.

You're crazy for not jumping on that. I paid half that the last time I bought it from a local store, I think back in March. But that's how it is now. If you have a range membership and can't use it, well, consider what that costs you to not go shooting.

My range is my back yard. No cost there.

You have until 11/04/2020 to stock up. It will either get dirt cheap the next day, or it will double again in price. Dollar-cost average now, while you can.

I'm gonna have to look around at reloading supplies for the 9mm. I don't know what the lead costs but my plan is to get a good stockpile of brass so I can reload.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - you guys who are serious about your shooting need to pick up reloading. Even if you don't reload every round you shoot, it is a valuable skill in times like these. When loaded ammo gets difficult to find, reloading components often remain widely available or, at least, much easier to stockpile than loaded ammo. It's an amazingly simple, uncomplicated process, if all you want is decent plinking ammo. At that level it's incredibly cheap as well.
