Of course it spreads. No one has said masks or social distancing are 100% effective. They are used to SLOW the spread and demand on the medical system.

The vaccines are not 100% effective yet they will be the best method to get the economy back open.

Heavy mask & lockdown countries have more deaths; France #17, USA #14 ...

They have also gone to 100% virtual schooling for high school and above. They have also stopped alcohol sales after 8 pm. They have also stopped more than 4 dining at on table in a restaurant. They have also limited outdoor gathering to a maximum of 8. They have also banned non essential travel into Sweden from outside the EU.

Why?

Fear of having the medical system being overwhelmed.

You have a few false premises there.

1) there is no evidence that masks -I mean the kind commonly worn- that those SLOW the spread. They may in fact increase the spread as people feel that they have placed sufficient protection on their face to get much closer to others who may be shedding.

2) The demand on the medical system is at a modern time low. Hospitals always strive to be near capacity - just as the owner of an apartment building would. YET people have been avoiding hospitals because of these stories of "at capacity" warnings. ("it's ok, my cancer screening can wait.")

3) " the best method to get the economy back open" That's a big one. A snuck (false) premise, that the decision to keep Walmart open and bars closed can only be changed IF we have a vaccine. This whopper of a lie infers that people have no immunity on their own. And that "Sweden did it wrong". Clearly they did not.

If you want to compare nations (which is foolish to begin with) how are neighbors Norway and Finland doing compared to Sweden?

Now you are making a bunch of foolish is-ought arguments. -- If Sweden is now doing all of those things it is because they ought to be doing all of those thing.

I can understand social distancing, and actually prefer it as my normal. I'm never going to wear a mask over my nose, but wear one to keep life's Karen's, and managers from verbally assaulting me for not properly virtue signaling (correctly).

I have used hand sanitizer only when someone forcibly pumped it into my palm at a business (maybe twice this year), but somehow remain healthy despite my co-morbidities.

I take vitamin D daily, and avoid most stores, but still do many things outside around my farm, and work full time.
