The stock trigger is not particularly heavy, but definitely a service pistol trigger rather than a competition trigger. All sorts of trigger connectors are available, and affordable, to lower the trigger pull weight. I would not lower it too much unless it is to be purely a range/competition gun.

Oh for a pure target range gun I’d look at the longslides, the 34 (35?) and 17L. 17L is a little longer than legal for some specific events, so they made the slightly shorter 34

Well! No longer "considering". I found a good deal on a Springfield XDM Elite so I grabbed it. I have a friend that has their FFL so it's shipping to him. Should be here by the end of next week.

Nice. Now the challenge is to find reasonably-priced spoon food for it!

A friend said he has around 1000 rounds and the reloading dies so I should be in good shape!

I bought the short barrel model XDME9389BHC. It seemed to be the best of both worlds. I wasn't aware of it until I went on their site hoping to find a left handed slide release.

OK so everyone has their favorite flavor of brand. I get that. What I don't get is why do some folks feel they need a 20+ magazine for a CCP defensive weapon or a home defense handgun. As best as I can see, out in the street you may need 5-10 shots max and it is game over (prolly more like 2-5). From what I have seen, if you encounter a group, usually after the first one goes down (maybe 2, the other "peaceful protesters" scatter. A home burglary is similar. If they are coming for you a-la John Wick, then you need 525 rounds as opposed to 25. A full 10-15 mag with JPM should be all I would ever need. For CCP I want lighter. 10 rounds is heavy enough. Am I missing something?

It wasn't a brand thing for me. It was all about feel. I held Glock, CZ, Baretta, Walther, Taurus, Springfield and a few others. The Springfield felt the best in my hand. As to why 20? I like having more than the next guy AND because I don't have to load 20 if I don't want to. Like I said, my main goal isn't CCP. I wanted something I could do multiple things with and the XDM elite with a short barrel fit that.

I am an Ed Brown man myself...
Who knows what evil lurks in the dark...the shadow do. I like the Czechs, lot of quality for the money..but then Langdon is the penultimate Itie.. I am not a fan of the Sauerbraten clan..except for the Swiss cousin..which is tighter than a swiss bank vault. As for the Austrians ehh...very functional at a reasonable cost..but it's fkin plastic for gawds sake.. to change gears a bit Sergi's 1947 design has caught my fancy especially the milled Bulgarian SF and new 1.5 Serbian..I dare you to find them and if u do don't hesitate..cause you will be looking again in short order. This stuff is hot hot hot as a june bug on a hot tin plate.. I have interest in the American G3 in Sergi's caliber...so far it is hide and seek.. You boyz talk about this and talk about that..I have been running around this block since 1979...anything I pu I find out about..and I have pu a lot of stuff..

I have the luxury of shooting at home, all the way out to 100 yards. Folks come over to shoot, some friends from Chicago some from around here. My berm is 10 ft tall and 25 ft wide. Can’t believe how many folks with concealed carry permits can stand 7 yards from the target and put all 15 or 17 rounds into the top 10 inches of the berm........that perp would have been safe. And seems like the ones that can’t hit anything load up their mags to the max and blast away. Generally I’ll put in 5 rounds shoot, walk down mark them repeat.. unless it’s a revolver I do 3 round groups. Rich |

I have seen it all, trust me. Most people simply cannot shoot worth a damn. It is a learned skill. I run the range with a very firm but happy hand. Folks I have not shot with in the past have to start at 5 yards before I let them move back. I do not conceal carry but I have truck guns that are carried to the letter of the law that I shoot often to stay in tune.

I was talking with my friend that teaches concealed carry classes yesterday. He said "I have a class open in 2 weeks". I told him I'd do some range time, cycle some rounds through it, get a good feel for it, then take the class. He said "I wish more people would do that". I've only shot a pistol less than a dozen times in my life, .357, 44mag, .40, .45. I know safe weapons handling. I need to learn how to hit what I'm aiming at with it. When I can use it the way I can my rifles, then I might be ready for a concealed carry class.

My son was a pistol and rifle instructor at VMI and he works with the newbies. We always start with a Single Six Ruger in .22 to see how they do. We never push, just make sure they are safe and get the basics down. We have a nice range of target to try and hit and run a clean range. You have probably seen this since it has been posted here before, but I like this guys approach and have adopted it for my Glock 22 4Gen as well as my Hi-Power.
