What color to paint cast iron NG pipe?

I'm getting around to cleaning up the basement and wanted to paint the pipe, which has slight surface rust.

Some of it is currently painted green by the previous owner.
Some is spotty black.
Most is unpainted.

I'm thinking black, but notice the flex lines are sold in yellow and industrial pipe is also yellow.

Black paint would be fine since gas line is referred to as "black pipe" AFAIK, there's nothing that says you can't paint it whatever color you want. I've been in places where it was painted to match the wall color inside as well as outside the home.

Yellow is the colour nat gas black iron pipe is painted in Canada on commercial applications.
I think you are fine choosing any colour but you may have to degrease the outside to get paint to stick well.

I painted with coal tar I believe. The intention was to seal for rust. Did the job.

I spayed some sections with rust converter primer.
Now airing out the house and waiting for it to dry.

Is Rustoleum enamel oil okay? or will it damage the pipe dope?

Agree. Mine are yellow underground, and about 6" above ground. All the exterior black pipe is painted grey,

And we want you to pin-strip them all in a contrasting color!

No flame paint jobs however.

Won't hurt the pipe dope. You'll probably have a hard time getting paint to stick to the stuff though.

Thx for the replies.

Yellow is the "standard" color. But most just paint it black around here with a brush on Rustoleum.

Shiny pipes. I also beefed up the hangers but it needs a little more.

The copper pound-in-loop type hangers can be tightened and tweaked by widening the loop, but that only applies a very small amount of pressure upwards.
(support is dependent on the copper wire not bending..which it definitely will.)
Perhaps that is a good thing.
Wood floors bounce and sag and shift over time. Pipe is solid.

I installed sections of cut up rubber bicycle tire between pipe and hanger.
Be sure to add a bit of flex space on both top and bottom when supporting pipe. Don't tighten it down too much.

Painted the walls with Killz. I have a sump and it's a dry basement.
Here is a glimpse of the dark pastel green from before.
