4800 mile journey begins tomorrow.

Got a competitor in Pataskala, Ohio who's haing some issues with a coil winding machine he bought about a year ago. We've been talking about megoing out there for a while to help him figure it out.
Since March I've run a 25% off sale and we've been pretty slammed. Have already done more than a good year's worth of work. But we've got a lull in orders right now, so now's the time while the pedning orders are low.
I will not be putting my arse on an airplane.

So tomorrow, I begin the 2400 mile trek from Seattle to Ohio in my 968. With 122k on the clock.
Fresh clutch, fresh rear main seal, fresh front brakes thanks to great help of Jeff Higgins , fresh-ish timing belt and water pump.
Spare DME relay, lower radiator hose, and front wheel bearings are on hand.

What could go wrong?

But just in case anything does go wrong that I can't do roadside, where are the places to have work done between Seattle and Ohio?
Here's my route.

Sounds like a terrific adventure in a great car, Wolfe. I'd love to go on a long road trip, but Ms. Corgi won't allow it.

Safe travels and keep us posted!

Have a great trip.

I would make one route change:

You miss all the mess of Chicago plus Some of the small towns, like Davenport, are neat.

Also, join AAA Premier or Plus. The $15.00 a month covers 200 miles of towing and a bunch of other stuff. You'll probably make up the fees in hotel discounts. When I was travelling a bunch it saved me a lot of money.

Others may disagree, but I have had excellent service from them and still pay for my kids. Peace of mind.

AAA is not too cheap, but with the 100 mile and RV tow package, I avoided the cost of about a $1,500 tow on my RV a week ago, For a car its dirt cheap if you need a tow once in ten years.

If you take your original route I could help you out either side of La Crosse, plus you could stop in to Dave's guitar and have a talk with Todd Wolfram.

But yeah, avoid Chicago. If for no other reason than you won't have a transponder for the toll roads.

The entire state of Illinois is free right now because of Covid, all toll booths are closed and you don’t need a transponder. You just drove right through the EZ-pass lanes. I just drove through Chicago, twice, 4th of July weekend. It wasn’t bad at all, stuffed up a little on the way back. Traffic moves FAST through that town when it’s moving.

Of course, you don’t want to be going through Chicago or any other city during rush hour if you can avoid it but your GPS will put you on the bypass highways anyway when your set destination in not in town.

That said, Mr. Seahawk’s route may be better for other reasons but I would not worry about going through Chicago too much. Just time it right. If you do go through Wisconsin and want to detour a couple hours north, I can put you up in your own guest cabin on the property and it is beautiful here.

Wolfe, if you do end up driving through the Twin Cities, give me a call. If I'm around I'll buy you lunch.

You are driving all that way to help out a competitor?
Why?

So many cool sightings and neat encounters on a road trip, especially along the B roads. So much to be gained on a trip if you can add a couple of days to wander and take in some of the points of interest along the way.

I hope you will find time to share some with us.

Happy trails.

Cheers Richard
